Hey all,
I am planning a project I am shooting in early January of this year in Northern Minnesota. My primary camera is going to be my Fuji GA645i. Temps can get down 20-60 below with windchill up there. I am taking precautions for my personal safety and dressing as if I'm climbing Everest, but what are the chances my camera will work in such low temperatures? As far as battery life goes, I know how to rotate sets in and out of a pocket with a hand warmer in it - I am more concerned about stuff physically seizing up, like autofocus or film advancement. I remember when I was in Moscow one winter my SLR seized up, and it wasn't THAT cold. I don't want to drive 16 hours up there for 10 days, only to not be able to work. Anyone ever shoot in that kind of cold?
Matt

Not much help for you, but we got all the way down to about 60 when I was using mine yesterday in Houston!

Dave,
Yeah I have experienced Texas heat - I was in San Antonio in July and that's about as hot as I ever want to be! Although I've never had such good Tex-Mex!

I shot a few Januarys ago in a grain elevator here in northern VT. It was around 0°F consistently, some days -10. My 645Zi did fine.

That's good to know - Vermont is almost as cold as Northern Minnesota, so that gives me a little confidence. Thanks.

one thing I would note from using my 35mm slr at minus 30 is the film gets brittle and the grease in the lens gets really thick (I was worried that the motor would burn up from the extra strain so did manual focus, a lot harder to turn, get some gloves with good dexterity, I use my ice climbing gloves)
Haven't taken my mamiya 7 or fuji out hat cold yet...
