What's the deal with the discounted Ikon kits?

Hi all,

After reading the news about 6 weeks ago of the discounted body/lens kits for the Zeiss Ikon, I've been keeping my eyes open. But it doesn't seem like U.S. dealers are taking part (Popflash, B&H, Adorama). Big Camera Workshops lists pricing, but I'm not sure what sort of cross-border snafus I might run into if there's any warranty issues. I did a quick google and the only other dealer I found mentioning them was Leo's Camera Supply in Vancouver. Is this only a Canadian promotion? Has anyone here bought one of these discounted kits and wants to say from where, or have any other comments?

thanks,
Jerry

To partially answer my own question, it doesn't appear to be a Canadian-only deal. Robert White (UK) also lists the bundles, although the USD to GBP exchange rate makes them less of a good deal.

Speaking of which, assuming that Big Camera Workshops is quoting in CAD, that's a helluva price in USD at the current exchange rate ($1400USD for body + 50/2? $1500 for body + 35/2 or 28/2.8?). Robert White says it's a special order, with 5-6 week lead times, so I suppose the other dealers are the same. Mighty tempting, if I could just figure out whether the warranty would be any good in the US.

The man probably likes to have his evenings and weekends off as much as anybody. But I know the Rangerfinderforum crowd goes at it 24/7, so this seemed like as good a place to start. I'd have thought someone around here would have bought one by now.

this thread is the first that i am hearing about these 'bundles'.
rob hangs out at apug sometimes, you might find some info there.

I just asked Rob. It's in Canadian $ but the prices are "about to go up". I am thinking of getting a chrome ZI with a chrome 35/2, yumm :D

Hi!

So who in the EU is interested in a black ZI body?
I would buy the set with the 2,8/21 and share the price advantage with you!!

I was looking for that lens for a long time, that would be the perfect chance!

If we share the price advantage, you could save 244 pounds incl. VAT compared to the standard price of the body only.

if somebody is interested, please send me a message!

I don't think that's the reason. 1 dollar buys a LOT more pounds than it did a year ago.

Sorry, what I meant was that buying from the UK is less of a good deal than buying from Canada at current exchange rates. It's still a good deal compared to buying body and lens individually from the stores in the US that aren't offering the bundles.
