What's the difference here?

I saw two M6 TTL both listed as new and .85, at the same site. One is several hundred dollars more than the other. Only difference listed is the serial number. What causes such a big price difference here?

Could be just the Serial Numbers, but you can always ask. A few crazy collectors get all worked up over Serial Numbers. If it is one of the very last of a run of a famous camera, the speculation is that it will be worth more in the future. The last 100 or so Leica M6 cameras are sure to fetch a premium.

Myself, I only get crazy over Nikon Serial Numbers. Leica's are just too nice all-the-way around to fret over such details; Canons are also great for putting film through; no one seems to care about Retina SN's, just whether it has Ektar or Tessar lenses; Contax: Color Dial; yup only Nikon collectors would pay a premium because a camera can't be used with a flash...

I agree: if only my Nikon S would be withour sinc plugs...
Anyway the M6 TTL 0,85 is probably the most flare prone of ALL Leica production.
I would avoid it.
If you have the chance of looking through a M3 finder you'll probably consider the M6 0,85 (an the other M6s) as a cheap alternative! It's really something to be seen.
Leica is providing "updates" for all rangefinders that nearly solve the flare issue...other dollars I'm afraid.

re: flare, the M3 is the most flare-proof I've experienced, although if you put tape on the slotted curtain (frameline illuminator) window of the M6s, the flare diminishes quite a bit. On the other hand, it is a bit harder to see the framelines. regards
