What's the story with this M2?

but look at his negative feedbacks most are on 0.99$ items :)) haha come on. There is one negative feedback on M1, well you never know. Maybe he had bad luck.

As others have said, feedback is the issue coupled with a somewhat hazy description and the price still being a tad on the high side. For the same sort of money you can get one from a dealer, complete with six months (or longer) warranty.

Thanks for all of the responses. I think we are to the bottom of it.

Agreed, this seller has a bad track record and I wasn't considering buying the camera mostly because of this.

I was really interested in knowing whether the story he's telling could be valid or not, and if not, identifying what parts were cobbled together to make an 'M2'. I had assumed that the top plate was from a different body from the beginning, but wanted to hear from RFF.

It's good to know these things and let others know how to spot bodge jobs so no one spends good $ on a pile of camera parts and a story.

Ignoring the sellers feedback, it might be a good camera. It took me years to realize that my first Leica, an early M3, had been heavily updated. Small strap lugs, modern speeds, single stroke and the dof notches in the rf patch. I had asked Don Chatterton for a good user and that's what I got. Way back in 1990. Joe

I looked at this, and you'd have to be nuts to buy it. The bad feedback is bad enough, but this auction is not from someone that knows anything about cameras. What about the rangefinder? How's the alignment? Is the viewfinder dim? He thinks that if you fire the shutter a lot that the slow speeds will start working? This isn't a leaf shutter, it's a cloth focal plane shutter. They won't come up, trust me.

There's a seller on the auction site that says "it's only a bargain if it works properly", or something like that. We should all tape that to our monitor whenever we're tempted by such "good deals". They almost never are after you have to do what's necessary to get them working properly.

Looks like a pawn shop or something like it. Sells Hot Wheels to slide projectors.

If the camera has an inspection and return period, was from a reliable camera seller- that is one thing. This is a gamble.
