What's up with this lens (Fed 50)?

It looks to be a "macro", close focusing version of the FED-50.

Would be hard to use on the FED the lens was designed for, unless special measuring and framing devices are used. Likely impossible if not very difficult to use on later post war FED-1 or Zorki-1, and perhaps any FED or Zorki which followed due to lens mount and focus camming incompatibilities.

There was a similar-looking 100mm/6.3 made for the early FED as well.

I'm not so sure it's a 100mm, although it resembles that lens. Could this be a 50mm lens built to focus close--a macro lens? I can't see the use of such a lens, since you can't focus it effectively.

I think it is a dual-range lens: notice the two focus scales?

Not sure how the close-focus would work, maybe some goggles sat over the viewfinder, or you just measured.

The seller "way Over-Uses" the word "rare" in his auction titles, but I think this lens is rare.

Very unique lens.

There's a piece written in some website which described the use of this lens in close distances- a tape measure is required! 😀

I'm fairly sure Princelle says that this lens wasn't RF coupled and it is for macro use. Camera on copy stand, maybe?
I like the look of it , though.

These are 50mm macro lenses made for the pre-war Fed 1. I have two (one without the two screws on the base plate). They do not RF focus. There are two scales one marked "M" that goes from 2 to 20 and a second marked "P" and "S" that goes from 1.5 to 105 . I haven't a clue how it is used - if anyone knows I would love to learn.

I think one used either a close focusing chart to focus these or the clever attachment in which the lens was focused on a glass plate and then the lens was slid in place in front of the camera body. I have this attachment but have not used it.
I bought it for the copy stand and the lights.

Interesting; was that a Fed/Soviet attachment or Leitz? Many thanks

One of the russian sites shows how it was used, sorry I now can't find which one.😡 There is a rangefinder like attachment that fits the accessory shoe, which focusses at fixed distances which are preset on the lens. I've only once (last year) seen one on ebay for sale with the attachment. The plastic case with this particular one is for another lens. The lens would seem to be commoner than the accessory!

Must be I've been at it for six years and never even knew about the accessory. I guess that that is common with many old photographic accessories. Will a Google search turn up the site or must you search in Russian?

If I find this damned site again I will post details. It was one of those things found by accident, looked at, passed on, but did not bookmark it. Sorry I know I'm a numbtie (scots:- pronounced numb-tay means idiot!!)

Two things bother me, having bought with satisfaction from two other favorite FSU eB@ySellers:

- This Seller's Feedback rating is only since March '07...

- This Seller uses the adjective "Rare" too often.

Caveat emptor.

All sellers start sometime, I've watched this chap from new - asked plenty but not bought yet. Always quick and polite. Maybe give him a break soon.
