What's Your Best Bargain Find?

Forgot to mention:
In an additional grocery bag that the owner threw in was:
Nikon F waist level finder in leather case
Nikon Sportfinder in case
Nikon FTn finder in case
Nikon Prism finder
All spotless.

I have also hung onto these items.

I have been very fortunate, no question.

i was riding my bike back home from the market down the street from our house and noticed this tiny little old lady that looked to be about 80 years old fiddling with a jack next to a green 1970 GTO. I stopped and said, this a very nice car, and she said.. "but it has damn flat!"
I asked her if i could help her out and found that she had no spare tire. We talked about how she came across this fine GTO all in beautiful original condition(i think it had about 46,000 miles on it) and she told me she had seen a GTO ad in Playboy magazine back in the 60's and convinced her husband to buy one. Anyway i told her i lived a couple blocks away and would be happy to get my truck and she could hang out at my house with the wife while i went to a tire repair shop. After i got her tire fixed and back on the car she asked if i would take some money for my time, and of course i told her not to worry about it. She then told me her husband had died not to long ago and she was preparing for a yard sale and maybe there was something she had in her garage that i might want real cheap. So i followed her home and took a quick look around and told her i did not really see anything i needed, but thank you anyway. She pointed to an old cabinet with 14 drawers and said how about that? I glanced at it from the other side of the garage and said jokingly to her, how much! She thought for a minute.... and then she said "50 bucks....but you have to take everything in the drawers too" :D

A Honeywell Spotmatic which I picked up from the classifieds on Photonet. The camera was free; shipping was $7.00. Even the light meter works.

A dear friend passed away and Foy, his widow, asked me to dispose of his camera collection on ebay. I could keep 30% of the income from the sale. At first I was excited, but then when I saw the collection I was disappointed: all Nikon SLR stuff (I guess I was expecting Leica stuff?), and anyway I'm a Pentax guy. However, at the back of the drawer was a Rolleiflex 2.8E. I asked Foy if, instead of selling it on ebay along with the Nikons, she would sell it to me.

She gave me a stern look and said, "Well, I'll have to get $125 for this one."

Oh my.... You win. And I think you should enjoy it with a clear conscience - You did a good thing.

I only have one steal, but I love it love it love it -- Oly XA4, $6 in thrift store. They thought it was broken. You probably guessed that it had a dead battery.

Acouple of great buys from Goodwill was a mint Nikon EM for less than $20 and a mint XA with A16 flash for around $3.50. Unfortunately, I haven't run one roll through the EM, but the XA does go with me on occasion to Russia and Ukraine.

a couple of months ago, i bought a yashica t4 super in a thrift store for $2 (it was on sale for 50%off) and i sold it on ebay for $275. i wouldve used it but i prefer the xa that i already had.

got any lenses for sale? :D

Spousal Unit out of town, check.
Credit cards (mostly) paid down, check.
Pawn shop listing on local Craigs List, oh oh!

At $5,800 I better check it out. It doesn't even matter which two lenses, right? Did the ad say two? Nothing about accessories? Ummm...:

24mm Elmarit-M ASPH
35mm Summicron-M ASPH
50mm Summilux-M
21-24-28mm Viewfinder

Now, I've been pretty happy with my M-6 and 35/50mm summicrons, which has kept my summilux temptation under control, and I haven't even considered dropping $6,000 on an M-9.

If I sell the summicron, I end up with an M9 and two, somewhat useful lenses for around $3,000.

I can't decide if I should sell the M9 or enjoy it for a while.

I lucked out because I just happened to check craig's list within a half hour of the posting, and I was a 10 minute drive to the pawn shop. The guys at the pawn shop were kind of excited, asking me why would a camera be worth that much. They were getting numerous calls on the camera, but I was first through the door.

I read a post from someone on another forum complaining about missing this!

That's what I fear will happen to my collection when I'm gone. I don't have anything like a drawer full of Summicrons (I do have one only) but my entire collection of cameras, lenses, and other bits & pieces is probably about $30k worth on current values. My family has no interest, and therefore no knowledge, of photography and I fear that they will either donate the lot to the Salvation Army or sell them for a pittance to some dealer who will make 500% profit.
