What's your dream?

Two dream here. One is that of a different market, where one can find affordable studio lights, softboxes, background. It is just so sad that we can get a 12.5 Mpx camera like a Pen SP-1 for 150 US$ because "it's old" and a much simpler object like a radio trigger costs twice as much.

The second is a pocket size camera with a decent sensor which is fast focussing and has a decent selection of lenses. Something like the Nikon 1 with a bit better sensor (a 1" could be enough for me if it is was with a quality and a low AA filter like in the Pentax Q) and some good prime lenses. For some reason being small and fast is something which only appeared in the mind of Nikon's designers, now they should just perfect the idea.

Fuji is very, very close to mine. I think they'll get there in another 2 to 3 years. Fuji X-Pro3: hybrid viewfinder with excellent focus peaking, full-frame XTrans sensor.

My X-Pro1 does it for me. What a modern Leica should be (according to me) at an affordable price. Great lenses. Switch to here-to-for non-rangefinder-like lenses with no problem and no Visoflex! Backed by a company intent on improving existing firmware.

What don't I like? Well, Fuji, you could give me a variable diopter eyepiece that I could actually use, one that goes further up the plus side like my Panasonic VF2 which goes from -5 to +5.

But, I'll take it just as it is!

The new Leica M (240) is pretty close to my dream cam.
It would be a perfect dream if it also had:

- a better, mainly faster EVF (in case you need it) or a hybrid rangefinder
- weather sealing
- extreme reliability
- lightning fast AF with a nice set of special AF lenses (just for those occasions where you want one). (AF-Lenses: 2.8/21, 2.0/35, 1.4/50, 2.5/75, 2.8/120, 4/200-400)
- another price tag ... no wait, it's a dream, right? So the price doesn't matter. 😉

I forgot I had another dream...am I late? 😀

I really would like to see the Lytro concept properly developed. Not a toy to post pictures you can "refocus" on a dedicated web site but a proper camera and software which allows you to refocus a picture and then print it with decent quality. I have so many sport and animal shots which would be just nice if it wasn't for being slightly out of focus.

I have a dream: better photographs. Better investigation of the subject. Better vision...

I need never buy another camera again except to replace breakage. The big Nikons come out for commissions but that is rare these days - by choice and by circumstance. The local papers don't pay unless I write and even then... Paying work these days seems to be mostly portraits and tourist brochures.

Totally agree w/you on "better photographs". That is the best dream ever but so subjective....

Having left the newspaper business five years ago (just before being laid off due to the recession), I am planning on getting rid of my Nikons and the heavy f2.8 zooms in favor of lighter gear. 'Course I am entering retirement with ZERO job prospects so I am looking at trying a new business model and working with local non-profits, some of it pro-bono, to give back.

Like others who've already posted, my dream gear innovation would be interchangeable digital sensors that could be used in roll film cameras.

Beyond that, the big dream is to have enough money to hire assistants to do everything I find tedious about photography: developing & scanning film, basic post-processing, etc.

I am pretty happy with what I have. If I just had unlimited funds I would have a digital medium format camera. Maybe the S2. I read some comparisons of the S2 and D800E and the difference was minimal. The S2 had the sharpest lenses but the D800E had slightly better resolution. But there is something about that huge sensor I would love to shoot landscapes and portraits with.

I want to hit the city just before rush hour and shoot some pictures with rain, umbrellas and people on the move. Subdued color, with my Yashica Electro 35 GX, and recently arrived Kodak Ektar 100. I will either do it with hyper focal setting, or pre focus. Or should I go the other way with a Fujifilm Xtra 800 and close the lens to gain on DOF.

I will make it real soon! It's raining constantly in Costa Rica now! I might be able to take an early leave.

Yes, of course I dream of a Fujifilm X-Pro-1 with an 18-55 mm f/2 lens, or a Ricoh GXR and walk the streets like Daido Moriyama, print my own photo books and others too!

I had a dream. It was to own a Leica M6 and some lenses and to take some great reportage type shots and snaps on my holidays.

I lived the dream as I had an M6TTL with 28/35/50 and 90mm lenses but eventually came to realise that, for whatever reason, I wasn't really suited to smal rangefinder shooting. Nothing wrong with the kit, of course. It was built beautifully and worked like clockwork- but I feel happier and more confident staring through an SLR prism.

I do, however, get on much beter with my Mamiya 7, though. My "dream" would be if Mamiya had made lenses that would focus closer than 1 metre. That aside, the Mamiya 7 is just about my "dream" camera.
