What's your favorite Photo Vest?

Rob, Multiple Myeloma is incurable - but thanks to heavy duty chemistry it has been kept reasonably in control. However, at the moment the values are creeping up and another bout of chemistry - this time Revlimid, a derivative of Thalidomide (which I was on for 4 years - with some severe side-effects). These are strong drugs - and the side effects are rather hairy. The product warning sheet is 2 pages - single spaced! I suspect that they are covering their axxxs with it. "Weight loss/weight gain, insomnia, extreme fatique etc!"
This is also why I like being a Canadian - it is free and in the US it is $10 000 for a 21 day supply!!!!!!!
I have upped my "normal" shutter speed to 1/500 as the medication does give a bit of a tremor in the hands - but that subsides once I am off it (which could be 3 weeks or 3 months depending on values).

Well, if things don't get better around here, maybe Sue and I will be Canadians, too. Economy, education, violence . . . Ten grand for three weeks, huh? If more people faced reality in this country, there wouldn't be so much resistance to the health plan.

I recently picked up a used Domke vest that basically looks brand new. I'm trying to determine if I can live comfortably with it, and have taken it out a few times with my Leica. I had the back of the neck temporarily modified (the modification can be backed out) so as to put less weight on my neck. The last time I had it out, I discovered that having a book in the middle of the back really helps to make it more comfortable.

The camera bag I use for my Leica is the smallest bag I own, but it's great to be able to dump it into the vest. It seems like it will be best once I start packing a couple extra lenses for the Leica. So it is safe to say, it's growing on me, but I still tend to prefer sticking a couple rolls of film in a pants pocket, and hanging the Leica around my neck and traveling ultra-light.

Where I think I'll see real value in the vest though is when shooting with either my Hasselblad 500CM or one of my 4x5 cameras. The vest will have no problem holding extra Hasselblad film backs, or 4x5 film holders. I can even slip a digital P&S and Lightmeter in the vest. I'm actually pretty excited at the prospect of trying it out for either of these purposes!

Where it seems less suited is when shooting with either a Nikon SLR or DSLR (unless I'm also shooting with one of the previously mentioned cameras. This is where I really need to find a backpack with better back support.

What is it with the fashion comments? A bag looks better? Anyone serious about travel photography is, in the end, going to look like a travel photographer. Same goes for street photographers. I have a Billingham bag for air travel because it is rugged and nicely cushioned, pack a Domke messenger type bag in my luggage and a Tamrac vest as well. Depending on the weather and the day's needs, I use the Domke bag or the vest. I also pack a nice little leather waist pouch for an extra lens and card and leave the rest at home or in the hotel if I really want to walk around light.

To me the object is to take pictures and use what is convenient and comfortable. You want fashion? Go to Brooks Bros. You want what is practical and serves your needs? Then to H--l with fashion statements.🙂

Gag... what is it about judgmental comments regarding how one chooses to dress for either work or everyday? I have never worn a vest and most likely will not but I respect those who do and, who knows, for the occasional photojournalist assignment, it might come in handy. But, Fred is right...😀

If I do get one, it will probably be the Humvee in olive drab. Why? Because it is different, period. Besides, it is cheaper than an Orvis.

But, then again, the Orvis will work dual duty, photography and fly-fishing.😛

What the hell happened to The Golden Rule?😕 Or humor?

I have several.
In the night when i go to the street I want be the part of the Paysage of the crowd so I choose a dark black coat so that it helps me not to be distinguish among the others and to tell them I am a photographer.

During the daytime I choose some thing similar so not tell and flash that I am a photographer. I don't carry lot of gear so i don't need a photographic vest . but carry my backpack to hold my RF and few lenses.
