What's your favorite TV shows?

I subscribe to minimal cable, which means I get about a dozen channels added on to my cable internet bill. Three of those channels are local stations, and three are shopping channels trying to sell me something. I don't pay for and don't watch cable news, etc.

I'll watch the local 24/7 news channel for about 15 minutes to catch up. I enjoy the original CSI show, set in Las Vegas. It is, I think, the only show I will make a point of sitting down to watch. At any given time, if I turn on the TV just to zone out there are sure to be reruns of Law & Order, NCIS, and Bones.

PBS sometimes springs an interesting show that's worth watching. Or, just amusing. My local station likes to run Fawlty Towers during fundraising weeks, but I bought the DVD, so now I can watch Basil at will.

I'm not into movies either. I can sit through about 5 minutes before i'm bored to death and thinking how I'll never get back those minutes of my life that I'm wasting.

I'm too busy now anyway. I have to do commercial work to earn a living and I'm working on my masters degree, which requires 200-300 pages of reading a week and a lot of writing. On top of that I'm a single parent and my son's mother is mentally ill so she cannot help out with things our son needs parents to do, like helping him with homework, taking him to school, feeding him, etc.

Even if I had a desire to watch anything on TV, I haven't got time. My son likes to watch a few shows, which he does on his computer. He says the good stuff's on cable, which I cannot afford, but its free on Hulu and on some of the networks' own websites. I don't mind him watching the stuff he likes, I am not an anti-TV zealot, but I personally get bored watching it.

I have to be doing something useful or I go crazy. I have so many photos I'm in the middle of editing and over 100 rolls of processed film I need to scan pictures from that have backed up because I have too many other things I need to do that are of equal priority (grad school) or greater priority (my son and making a living so we can eat). If I did have lots of free time, I'd buy more books and read them instead of watching TV.

Well, good for you! As one of the resident time-wasting couch potatoes here on RFF, I'm glad to see we aren't all tempted by the evil soul-stealing box....

Regarding PBS, the recent Ken Burns series on the national parks was superb. It was the best documentary I've seen over the past few years.

Seinfeld is my fave show of all time.

I don't watch very many shows regularly anymore, but I do like House and I watch Survivor as the only "reality" show I can stand. For some strange reason I love Friday Night Lights, but I can never see myself liking it, if you can understand. 🙂

I miss King Of The Hill and Daria.

Yes, I fall asleep to Letterman most nights and I do have MSNBC on for background noise some evenings. 🙂

In some cultures, yes. But cameras steal your soul only when the shutter is pressed. The TV does it 30 times a second. 😱

Breaking Bad is the best show I've ever seen. I also love The Office, Family Guy and The Simpsons.

Spooks, BBC UK. For our USA friends a program based on MI5. So well written that programs already scripted and shot showed close resemblence to situations that actually happend months later. Also it does not pull punches.

As with most of my favorite things, my favorite TV show is well aged: Fawlty Towers. I've got every episode in DVD.

Must watch with Popcorn.
