What's your ideal lens and make with RD-1?

Have a 35mm Nokton most of the time on my RD-1, if anything else it´s probably the visoflex.. So for everyday use and low light it´s no way beyond the Nokton 🙂

I'll see if I can run a test for you don. i usually shoot the 40 with the 50 framelines and frame VERY tightly, it seems to be a fine guide for me.

My 40 M-Rokkor, using the 35 frame lines, at about a yard seems to line up perfectly with the outside perimeter of the lines.

Favorite lens 40mm Summicron C-it is on my RD1 all the time.I shoot raw mostly B/W but have done more colour recentlyThe 60mm field of view suits me perfectly and fits the RD-1 35mm frame lines without issue.

I agree about the VC 40mm Nokton. Much closer match than my 35mm Cron. Perhaps just a very slight crop to the bottom, if your very critical about the edges when in closer than about 8 feet (Where the effective focal length increases, which is why a lens frameline match can't be achieved at all distances and why there are safety margins). Others have reported the 40mm Cron as slightly better compromise than the VC, almost perfect.

I love my Rollei Sonnar 40mm 1:2.8! The 35mm framelines are near to perfect. I think about 5% more than the real picture. I love it for people. I also own the 50mm Planar and the 28mm Biogon. This is my favorite set for now, but I plan to buy a 50mm m-hexanon and to compare it with the Planar. Which one will win the 50mm shootout? What do you think?

my favourite lenses on 35mm film bodies were 28mm and 85mm - maybe 105 or 135 for heads.

Now on the R-D1, 21 is wide, 28 semi wide, 40mm is normal, and 50 for portraits.

I like the precise framing with the 40mm lens and the 35mm framelines - you can really crop in the camera, almost as good as SLR!

I shot a couple frames with the cron 40, it IS almost exactly on the 35mm framelines... which is nice!

The 28mm Elmarit is hard to beat on the RD1. Also using the 50/2 Hexanon.

If I "have" to pick two, 28/2.8 Canon & 50/2 Nikkor.

On the R-D1 the 40's vof is cropped to that of a 60mm.

To be honest, I don't know or care what is "normal". I shoot a 50/2 on my R-D1 most of the times and it works for me. The 40 I shoot less often but when I do, it works for me. I also shoot a 50/3.5 on my FED-2 or a 50/2 on my M2. That also works for me. I just adapt to the vof and let my legs do the zooming (jn/out). 🙂
