I guess we've all heard the hype about great deals at the auction site over holiday weekends etc... Well, this one was a dud for me!!!!

My new loosing record is now 5 in a row!!! In one long weekend!!! This may seem trivial, but I don't often actually bid... Now I am curious... What are other people's loosing streaks like? Maybe you can make me feel better !

The funny thing is that some of you out there may have played a part... 🙂 I'd actually be glad if it was 5 people from this great community who are awaiting the fruits of their latest GAS attack!

I bid on every Contax G Sonnar 90 for two or three years and then ended up with two of them 🙂

Missed two things this week. Did not bid the big bucks because I am on a budget. For a while I was hoping no one liked the same things that I did. Now I cannot bid on an item because I may win a similar later and it would be tight to pay for both. 😕

I think I must have bid at least ten times in the past few weeks - here, there, and everywhere - on a Polaroid 680. I know: not an RF...but I do want one badly.
Not badly to the tune of $200 though. I may have to bide my time.
Or I may have to give up.

I passed up on a mint chrome cv nokton with M mount adapter on ebay. BIN was $180, but I did not really "need" it. I think I may regret doing that. :bang:

I've lost every single auction. Including one for a 50 f/1.4 Nikkor LTM, the bastard outbid me during the last 8 seconds; final bid? $182.

On the bright side, I have some money left on my bank account (I think)...

I just checked my most recent (60 days) bids. Out of 19 I won 17. The main reason for this is that I use Esnipe. After watching an enlarger I really wanted go to a slightly higher bid in the last 10 seconds I asked around and found out about esnipe.

Now when I decided I want to bid on an item I also decide what the maximum I am willing to pay for that item. I go to esnipe and list the item and state my maximum. That bid goes in just a few seconds before closing. Either I win it or I don't. Many times I have won it for much less than my max bid.

I wonder what if any the benefit is of posting a bid on anything with 6 more days to go. Doing so just lets other know you have and interest and how much more they will have to bid to win. I've also seen items that have 10 or more bids and the dollar amount is still less than $25.00 on an item that will ultimately sell for a few hundred dollars with 6 days still to go. What is the logic of this? The Leica listings are full of this kind of thing.

Anyway I am a big esnipe fan. It's cheap and easy to set up.

My record? Murder 1, Arson, High Treason...but that's just in California, so I'll be ok.

Schönes Deutsch on that M2 listing, Volker. Hopefully the old lady isn't keeping any secrets.....

I think I may take the cake, or win the prize on the longest streak of losses, here on RFF. Since registering with Ebay in Feb. 2002, I have bid on 300 items, and struck out on every single one, often by a few pennies. On the bright side of it though, I am not beleaguered by a mountain of gear, as I am in my dreams. I am free to look forelornly at other people's things, rather than have mine collect dust....etc. etc. and all of that silly nonsense. Hear me now! One day I will win an auction!

I rarely win because I tend to bin low. 🙂
Last 2 items were Industar 61s. First was not a clean, smooth I-61 L/D, but a gummed up Panda, so I got all my money back and relubed it myself.
2nd was an $8 I-61 L/D, described as smooth etc... Also gummed up (which I expected) but it had a lens hood so I relubed that too. All I need now is to actually get to use them!

Cheers,

Nick
