definately! i'm not an expert or a camera tech, just my experience with my own m cameras. I never experienced light leaks till my m experience but all the photos i see with this damn red on i immediately think 'light leak' !

What camera is it, Randy ? I still have some foam at home - quite easy to
fix for most cameras.

It's my recently acquired M4 which is otherwise in perfect operating condition (my M3 is on its way to Youxin right now). If you, too, think this is in fact a leak through the rear door then I would be happy to drop by your place for a quick foam fix (and will bring some enticing brews as well!).

the back door light leak is really easy to fix. see my m6 flickr photo for foam install.

The leak is on the bottom of the image, which means it's somewhere along the top of the rear door. (Image is upside down in the camera.)

Makes sense, Frank, technically (in terms of the image being upside down in the camera) and because the camera was inside a Luigi half case which would make it very difficult for light to have entered from the bottom of the rear door if there was any light leak there.

Michael: Light leaks or not, I agree some wonderful shots.

Alternative: Michael used Kodak 400UC film, which is much "hotter" than some other films, esp. the standard Fuji 400.

Thanks a ton everyone for the wonderful comments and thoughts. I've never been a fast film shooter but I found that 400UC stuff and so far I like it.

I've been shooting the farmers and landscape on the Palouse for about a year for a book I'm working on. I really, really need to get some graduated filters to hold back the sky in some shots. I always seem to blow out the clouds 🙂

Just finished examining the back of the M3 and replaced the foam strip along the top of the door. It seems there are very few places light can leak. Along the top of the door and the strap lugs. I can't see the pictures of the repair posted earlier, it only shows the one picture and then some different shots.

Just a thought...

If it was in a Luigi case, sometimes those things can be rather tight at the bottom of the camera and press against the bottom of the door, pushing it in slightly. This can cause a slight gap or leak in the top of the door at the hinge. Maybe check how tight it all fits before sending it away?
