When did Kodak 4x5 LF film get so expensive?

I haven't bought any for ages but thought it was about time to stock up for those odd occasions when I feel like an LF fix.

Kodak in particular suddenly seems very expensive ... two dollars a negative in effect for their three popular black and white films. I'm sure the last box of TXP320 I bought was a lot cheaper than that!

Or am I imagining it? 😱

Is anyone using Efke in large format?

I was looking on macodirect's site and a box of Efke 50 (50 sheets) is 30 euros .... that's about thirty five dollars AUD and around a third of the price of Kodak T-max.

Efke film

Efke film

I've used efke 50 film in 2.25" x 3.25" sheets, and I like it.
The only issue is the bother with sheet film.

In regards to reports about the fragility of the emulsion, I didn't have any issues. I had to intentionally scratch the wet emulsion with my fingernail to make it fall off. Besides that, I don't know what else to say. I like it.
I've only taken test shots around the house so far with it, and here's one:
(clicking it makes it bigger; I had to downsize it considerably for the internets)

Camera: Busch Pressman C
Lens: Ektar 101 f/4.5 [at f/5 ish]
Developer: Rodinal, 1:12

I like it. Plus, it's cheap.

Great silvery mid tones in that image ... I'm seriously thinking of ordering some!

Thanks. 🙂

Yeah, the prices went up quite a bit with the whole bankrupcy thing. If you think bw is expensive check out the prices for Portra!

Ilford is still comparably cheap, though. 100-sheet boxes of FP41 and HP5+ at Badger Graphic are both $115 and Delta 100 is even cheaper ($105).

I use the Fomapan 100

I have used the Adox emulsions too, never had any issues with the film fragility, the backing paper on 120 sometimes lets in edge fog at roll end sometimes...

Both Adox and Foma are great films at a decent price.
