No guilt here sorry ... it's a brilliant camera and I'm sure you'd have no regrets!

I like it that much I'm now on my third one ... picked it up today and I have my fingers crossed. 😛

... so a GF1 with the 20mm and an optical finder would work equaly well then? well, apart from the babe magnet function that is
 
I must admit I'm intrigued by the idea of an AF RF, I didn't get on with the G1's AF but this could be a better option. You've had it a while now Keith so, banding aside, is it a goer? If I could use it as quickly and easily as an M and the AF is as reliable as could be expected then it may be worth investing in.

Don't wish to hijack the thread, I'm just at a crossroads; save for the M9 or go with the X100 as a cheaper but more restricted option....sorry this is more a stream of consciousness than an actual question. Quandaries hurt my head!

I have no issues with the AF at all Simon. If I want to focus on something in the foreground, say in the bottom right of frame, I lock the exposure for the over all scene with the appropriate button then quickly focus the camera on the point I want in focus, lock focus with a half press of the shutter then recompose and shoot. This is with the focus setting on default which is central of course ... I like it best there and you can actually move the focus point around manually if you want but the way I've desribed is quick and easy when you get used to it.

All I can say is what I say to anyone deliberating over the camera ... just do it! I love the thing and although I've had my problems it hasn't detered me one bit ... my own bad luck aside it's a fabulous tool. 🙂
 
It sounds like I'd end up using the AF in the same way, I tend to use the central AF point on my D3 bodies as this seems to help avoid any slight chance of back focus, it's also easy and quick as you say.

I wish I was like Roger and various others who have manufacturers sending them cameras to test for a few weeks....but then maybe that would simply light a GAS fire in me that couldn't be put out.

By the way, hope your banding issue is sorted, we can handle our own daft mistakes but it's annoying when the camera let's you down. Oh, and the colours do look very impressive which is another thing that impresses me with both the M9 and X100.

Much to ponder in the coming months! Thanks for the info and opinion
 
dammit Keith, you keep posting X100 photos that have the siren call of the credit card. That lens/sensor combination really does produce the goods.
Hope your third one is the keeper!
 
Actually I was a little worried about the slight redness in the faces of the two gals right and rear and was puzzled that Mary the matriarch didn't appear to be so afflicted.

Then I remembered the two gals mentioned had just polished off a couple of bottles of white wine and were in the process of coercing me to take a trip to the bottle store for more supplies ... because they weren't quite ready to stop drinking just yet! 😀
