Hi Guys!

Fed cameras have no date prefix in their serial numbers, so I cannot know when my Feds were made. Could you help me? (E.g. if you are collectors or experts.)

My Fed-4: 8158322, lens 6946446.
My Fed-3: 8645611, lens 8671800.

Thank you very much.
Thomas

The Sovietcams website is very good for differentiating between the versions of a particular model. This can give you a date range for manufacture. There are also examples with serial numbers given that can help narrow it down further.

Thank you. These models were released between cca. 1968-1980. But I would like to know the exact year.:bang:

What I was trying to say was that while the model range spans a large period, if you go to that site you can narrow down your particular camera(s) to a version which will give a shorter date range. If you are lucky then one of their example cameras will have a serial number close to yours.

Hi,

All you can do is try and bracket the years in which similar ones appeared, unless, of course, someone can come forward with a similar camera and the "passport" that came with the lens and body.

For instance my FED 3 number 8 16X XXX dates to May 1969 and that might just help you date yours or the 4. And I have seen a FED 3 No 8 43X XXX passport dated October 1972.

Regards, David

Here are some details from passports in my archives

FED-4 8181694 N-61 6905429 Oct 1969
FED-3 8660832 N-61 8679184 May 1974

Cheers

This ought to be permanent with a heading to attract people with a lens or body passport, then we could build up a data base/list of serial numbers, make, model and dates...

Thanks a lot! These data are sufficient for me. I think that my cameras were born in the same years, respectively.

Though I've ran into a situation myself where my Fed is clearly a Fed2A ( model # PE0365 on the site ), stating that the serial number range #027.000-#065.000 covers that model.

Problem is, mine is 022,265, putting it in the serial range of the PE0360/PE0355 (mine has the switch ring, rather than the switch lever of the previous model, otherwise identical).

But at least with mine I can narrow it down to either 1955 or 1956.
