Where Are the Hexanon Lenses?

Simply speaking, we are all sick.
Indeed we are rover, but to quote you earlier in the thread, you appear to have been at least temporarily inoculated:

Strangely at peace for the moment with his RF kit, rover reads this thread without the slightest twinge or ache to start bidding on the two Hexanons mentioned currently on ebay.

It's gone!? I think we spoke too loudly, or maybe someone's insistence on the reasonable price tag, and attached photo of the same lens mounted on their gorgeous two-toned M6, influenced a certain innocent inquisitor, who was only wondering where all the Hex's were hiding, causing the inquisitor to breakdown, dip into his savings (er...deferred spending), and acquire yet another uneeded (but highly desired) photo-related item. Originally, it was not to be, but, alas, it came to be. Another Hex off the market, another lens in the bag. Arrgh!

Photos forthcoming. 😉
Soooo... Congratulations, Ray! 😀 However methinks thou dost protest too much! 😉 I think that this whole thread was quite Machiavellian, an "innocent" query that rather predictably led to furious searches and owners weighing in about the qualities of the lenses. IMHO the fact is that the thread author was predisposed to the purchase but was clever enough to use the well-oiled RFF GAS machinery to do the spade-work and then sneakily nipped in and nailed the purchase before anyone else had the chance to even blink. 😉 And did he trumpet his triumph to the skies? Nooooo - he was forced to shamefacedly admit it and wrap his naked lust with a bogus rationale when he was caught... 😀

Anyway, I suppose I'm not ashamed to infect others with GAS. 😉 I blew my whole year's budget in 4 weeks June/July with one camera body and two lenses, prices seemed a bit soft during the summer. I still have to pay for the two lenses, got the credit card bill this week. 🙁

Anyway Ray, joking aside enjoy the lens, it really is a wonderful piece of glass. Now that you've bought one I've attached a side view closeup of the lens just to make your tongue hang out for the delivery. 🙂 My sample arrived with the box & leather pouch & lens hood and papers - the whole 9 yards. The one thing I didn't like was the hood, way too big and yes it is vented but it occludes too much of the VF IMO. So I got a 46mm wide-angle lens hood from eBay seller heavystar. I strongly recommend this hood, you do not need a deep hood with a wide-angle lens - this hood is extremely well made and a great price at $6.88, and it does not cause vignetting. It still occludes the lower right corner of the VF but nowhere near as badly as the original Konica hood.

BTW the 28mm M-Hexanon on eBay is now at $457 with 5 days left on the auction...

Hey Peter, I am glad you and I both got lucky with our deal on your 28. I got the set for a price that allowed me to sell the lenses for a reasonable price without trying for the maximum possible gain.
Like I stated earlier, another kit has surfaced and is up for sale.

Are all the Hexanons and Hexars in Holland?

Hi there Rob! I'm glad too!! 😀 Thanks for this great lens, it focuses accurately and the glass seems to be just fine. I've attached a pic taken with it below, it was a test shot taken when I was running my new M7 through its paces to make sure everything was OK with the automatic exposure. I think the aperture was f5.6 or so on the 28.

M-Hexanons do show up here every now and then, the most common being the 28 and the 50, the 35 is a bit on the rare side.

I hope you are enjoying the Hexar Rob! 🙂

Well done, my fellow Hexanon fondler! 😀 And thanks for the picture(s). I will look into the hood you recommend. Also, thanks for the feedback and sharing your knowledge (everyone else that relpied, as well). I know well that I am seriously afflicted with GAS, but I have been enlightened, and I hope others have too.

🙂

Pretty clever, Ray... I'm going to do just like you: have the whole RFF constituency looking for the glass I want when I want it! 🙂

Now... seriously, I'm glad you grabbed the KEH's Hexanon. In fact, one of my fears was, precisely, that someone else would beat you to it.

BTW, I am the happy owner of an Hexanon 35. Initially, I didn't even know they existed until someone in this forum informed me about them. Later I bought mine from a Photo.net member and my Summilux-lust died very quickly.

What would be appropriate prices for new old stock Hexanon M 28mm and 90mm lenses? There's a shop here in Zurich which has them on sale, but I can't remember the exact prices.

Thanks,
Nick
Difficult to say from over this side of the pond, Nick. I have read of (but not seen) prices between $600-800 on eBay for the 28. The 90 is less expensive but I have lost track of it's value. Taxes in European countries can also jack up the price, often here in the US you can avoid sales tax by buying in another state. I don't think you can work that trick in Europe.

Sales tax in Switzerland is reasonable: 7.6%, but local distributors' markups are amazing! For example, the in-shop retail price for an Epson R-D1 is the equivalent of $3600.

Thanks,
Nick

Interesting. Unlike the seller I have seen them on eBay, not recently mind you. Between $1.6K - $2.1K is a bit rich for what is essentially a compromise lens. I remember that the 21 is subject to vignetting.
