Today; where are the Winogrands, the Joel Meyerowitz, the Elliot Erwitts?
Are they in us?
Are they in us?

Meyerowitz lives in New York, while Erwitt's in Paris. Winogrand is dead, but probably not sufficiently decomposed back to the elements to be "in us".
If you mean Are there photographic geniuses around today, yes I'm sure there are. But I'm afraid most photos have been done by now, so it's hard to recognize a star when you see one.

In the past, some wonderful photographers operated in obscurity, hidden and invisible because they never came to the attention of those who could bring their work to the public. Today they are hidden amongst the waves of rubbish published on the internet.

Craig Semetko, Nils Jorgensen, Eric Kim (?), Severin Koller...
And of course, already established photographers like Joel Meyerowitz, Alex Webb, and Bruce Gilden still have some years ahead of them.
While I can definitely understand where you're coming from, I have to disagree. Street photography has been seeing a massive revival over the past 5-10 years. Every new era brings a new set of things to document and preserve for future generations. Those quintessentially "2013" images. And there's still the cliches that people still eat up, anyways. Not to mention, we're starting to see people from outside the traditional street cities (NYC, London, Paris, Tokyo) get recognition, which shows the world and eye into new environments. LA in particular has seen a lot of growth in interest in street photography, as has Berlin and many Asian cities.

You're famous here on RFF for a number of reasons, Joe - how much more fame can you handle ?
As for becoming rich, have you considered prospecting for gold - far easier than making money from photography, I've heard... (!)

Not only that photographers are not becoming famous for the quality of their work, even some of the past famous photographers are losing their standing...

There's the whole Weeks/Kim/Semetko thing, plus a ton of lesser known photographers based in LA. These three have started street photography after the turn of the century. Before that, I don't know of much LA street photography, although I know there is some.
