I just got the R-D1x and I want to have a grip for it like the one in the R-D1xG kit. Did Epson ever sell the grip on its own? Are there third party companies that offer a grip compatible with the R-D1 cameras?

I'm new here. I searched the forums and I've found some people who have fabricated their own custom grip for their R-D1. I'm not nearly that crafty. It would be awesome if there was a grip I could go purchase for this.

Flip Bac Innovations Stick-On Grip (G4)

Flip Bac Innovations Stick-On Grip (G4)

Hey Everyone,

So... In my quest to find a 3rd Party grip, I came upon this company called Flip Bac Innovations. They make 4 sizes of their stick-on Grip. I found the (G4) to be the best size for the R-D1. Plus, it's the only one with a leather texture.

I made a composite graphic (to-scale) of the Flip Bac G4 grip on the R-D1 so I can see what it looks like before committing. What do you guys think?

Note: You can see the leather grain texture of the Flip Bac G4 grip is a little bigger than the leather texture on the R-D1, but it doesn't take too much away from the over all look with it on.

These are available in B&H Photo Video

Alternately, there are also these custom stick-on grips: Kleptography Grips
These grips are made for specific cameras. I'm contacting him to see if he's interested in fabricating grips for our R-D1's.

I like the looks of that stick on grip.

Im leaning toward the luigi half leather case with the built in grip though. Looks lovely and kills two birds with one stone. Expensive, though very happy to support artisanal low output producers

mmmk's proposal apart from looking a bit odd may not work for long. The covering on the R-D1 is lightweight and only glued on lightly because a technician will need access at some point. The glue on a Flip Bac is I am sure, much stronger. The Flip Bac is sold for use on smooth metal or plastic surfaces. I venture to suggest that in time it will probably come off taking the covering with it. Now, R-D1's do bounce but................
