I am after some more 35mm film holders/sleeves to keep my negs - those translucent archival film filing & protectiong "thingies" that can store 7 x 6 neg strips per page.

The only one I have found is ePay item #230363901546.... $50 AUD shipped for 100 of these is not that cheap.

Can someone suggest a cheaper alternative (taking into account of postage to Australia).

Anyone have any in their stockpile and willing to sell me some ? :)

Thanks...

I use plastic sheet protectors from the office supply store and use the sealing function on our vacuum sealer to create the right sized pockets. Takes some practice and probably isn't archival quality but saves a few $$.

Well, anything not archival is not really a savings!

I like the PrintFile offering, but it requires a larger than normal binder.

I almost started a similar thread yesterday, I'll just piggyback on this one with my minor question:

I've got some 36exp rolls that the lab cut in to strips of 8 strips of 5... does anyone know of a single-sheet, binder-ready archival page? Seems 7x5 is the biggest I can find.

I use the Print File's 7x5. Any more than 35 just goes in a separate page. If I'm working on a project that has several rolls of extra #36 frames, they all go to this same page. I know I'm "wasting" one page, but it's just easier to use the regular formated binders then.

You got 40 exposures on a roll? Cool.

7x5 is the mist I've seen for strips of five.

Nope, I don't bulk load (yet!)... it's the result of dividing 36 by 5 and having a remainder of one. Over the years I've had labs cut them into strips of 4, 5, and 6, which is a bit of a headache for arching like this. I may just bite the bullet and do like marke says. Is it a bad idea to cut out a single frame from a strip?

ethics_gradient, I just look at the first and last frame, and decide which one is really a keeper. Rarely are both for me. If the last one is, I start cutting from there and make the first frame the single one. Whichever one gets the "axe", also gets a bit longer leader on the long end, just to get more meat in the negative carrier or scanner's film holder. So far, I've never had a problem using tha method.

I usually end up putting at least 7 single-frame strips into this extras page. And even if there's one neg that's not part of the project, it's close enough in the file binder to easily find if need be, since it can't be anymore than 6 pages away.

Are Glassines Archival? It Sure Seems So!

When I first got into photography in 1961 everybody kept their negatives in glassine sleeves. Maybe ten years later we started reading that they weren't archival. By then I had too many negatives to redo everything.

Well, here we are in 2009. Those old glassines have yellowed a bit but the negatives are still just fine. Savage still makes glassines.

I get them from Freestlye. The frieight is pricey, so include a decent film order or something else you need, to spread the cost.

How many are you after?

Fergus.

Try PRA Imaging in Perth. They had neg sleeves in stock (should be on their website) when I was last there and will post to you

Fergus,

I am after about 100-200 sleeves - that should last me a little while :)

It would be great if you give me aheads-up on your next order and we may be able to sort out a combined order.

In the mean time, there's a Canberra RFF'er who may have a supply to satisfy my short-term needs.

They weigh more than you think... 200 sleeves will be 90% of the freight even if we are all in for several dozen rolls of film.

Isn't it your turn for an Australian-RFF film order? :p

My next film order will be B&H... for some reason 400X is US$3.50 more expensive per roll in 35mm from Freestyle!!!

Cheers...
Fergus.
