Where do you buy brown/amber glass bottles?

I'm looking for the brown/amber glass bottles to store some developer in. Where do you guys buy these from? I'm looking for Pint-ish and Gallon sizes.

Yes, Guinness extra stout. Very dark brown. Trouble is, they come in 12 & 24 oz. sizes, but apparently not in a 32 oz. that would make them perfect for the job.

I used to go to local pharmacies to collect various sized brown bottles -- freebies, too.

Just cleaned them out and they've been in service for 20 some-odd years now.

Bottles don't need to be brown if they are stored in dim light: a darkroom is ideal. I bought some Schott lab bottles with blue plastic screw caps. The advantage of clear glass is that it's easier to inspect the contents, e.g. for signs of oxidation and also particles and sediment.

Any marbles as long as they are small enough to fit in the mouth of the bottles. I got them in bulk 200 count from ebay for about $10 (9/16 inch size work for all my photographer's formulary bottles purchased at BH)

Imported "flippie" bottles containing various Belgian ales work very nicely and store in the fridge.

For amber bottles you can search many dealers online. They would provide you many bottles having different sizes and colors.

I second the beer bottles suggestion. Soak overnight. Buy a $5 capper and a few caps at the homebrew shop. Add marbles as you use liquid.

I find Bloxygen is simpler than marbles, and while not re-useable is certainly effective. Even Studionol lasts fine in partial bottles.

I went to a local beverage store that sells beer out of the tap. They're called "Growlers" here. They sell brand new empty bottles with a cap that has a plastic insert. I think the price was $3 each.

For half gallon storage of fixer and tempering tap water for stop/washing duty, Arizona Tea bottles. The flavor that includes fruit juice. After I drink the Arizona Tea.

Pharmacies quit getting supplies in amber glass ages ago. Everything is plastic now.

Why do you need brown/amber bottles?

Just asking.

I now use 2 liter soda bottles as I find that the cap seals real well over and over, again and again. I find green bottles seem to protect the developrs better as I'm using D-76/ID-11 that is 2 yrs. old and still works just fine.

My recommendation, perhaps consider using mt 2 liter soda bottles. They work far better that brown/amber glass bottle as I have a sneaking suspicion a good part of the reason for long life is the ability of the caps to seal.
