I was looking to order some tri-x, It's been years since I've ordered a multipack from B&H. Looks like the Grey market stuff is gone. Anyone know of a good place to get some tri-x cheap via mail?
Thanks in Advance,

DD,
I'm checking Adorama for things of this nature, because they are one of our sponsors. I've bought from them and B&H in the past, but if the prices are close I'll go with Adorama.

DD, if you don't mind "rollin' yer own", you can get 100 feet rolls of bulk film from Freestyle Photo. I haven't looked lately but I think it runs just under $45.00.

Tri-x that I rolled from 100 feet developed in Diafine at 1250 is one of my favorite walk around films with my Kiev 4 with a 53 mm Helios 1.8 and 35 mm Jupiter 2.8 lens.
Great combination.

i may be crazy bit i prefer to buy my film locally.
only because i feel the need to support my local economy somehow.
i don't buy cameras or lenses here (only the r & lenses) but most of my stuff is used, off the net.

How many feet is a roll of 36 exposures? Can you load more than 36 exps into one canister? How's it all work? Can it be done in a changing bag?

i roll about 30 exposures, so that given the amount that gets lost in the beginning and end, I end up with about 24-26 exposures. I usually get about 23 rolls out of 100 feet.
Yes you can load more than 36 exp, but hell, I have problems getting just 36 onto a reel sometimes.
You load the film into the bulk roller in the dark, and then once loaded, you can roll in the light.

I bought my last batch of Tri-X from B&H. Almost all my black and white film is bulk stuff I load myself. When I first started out, I bought my film locally, until I realized how much of a ripoff Henry's is, even compared to other Canadian film sellers.
It's not cost effective to order from B&H unless I buy large amounts (but even with their extremely high minimum shipping charge, I don't have to order much before I'm saving money over what Henry's would charge). If I want a few rolls of something, especially Agfa film (very cheap), I order it from Photoco in Quebec. They have great prices, and I don't have to pay PST (still pay GST though).

Bob, do you have a link to Photoco in Quebec?
I currently purchase most of my Tri-X from Downtown Camera in Toronto. If you buy ten rolls at a time, they further discount it. That's walk-in. I don't know if they do mail order.

Don't let their crappy web site put you off. Their customer service is extremely good, and my orders arrive very fast (I'm in Ontario, too). The film they send me is the freshest I've ever received, even more so than B&H. They do sell (or can get) items not listed on their site, like APX 100 in 100' lengths. And remember, no PST

If you want the "nice" online version of photoco, it's www.photo-co.com. It's the same company, same tel# etc and the 100ft rolls are listed here. Their AGFA prices are very good, but Ilford prices aren't any better than Henry's here in the GTA.
Now I'm just looking for a Canadian source of 2x3 sheet film for my new 2x3 Graflex. I have the roll film back, but just want to play with sheet film also. Anyone know of a source besides JandC?

London Drugs is British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba only. Checkout www.londondrugs.com for the online site.
ps. why are they called London Drugs if they're Canadian only, and are not based out of a town called London?

Well, I just looked at both websites (photo.co and london.drugs) and they're either about the same or, in some cases, more expensive than what I pay walk-in at Downtown Camera (which has always had better prices than Henrys on film). I pay sales tax, natch, but I can browse through used camera gear, pick up extra Rodinal, and think once again about those Holgas they have in a stack near the front register

My local shop has pretty high prices compared to what I can get online. I'll only stop in their for film if I need a roll quick.
B&H wasn't bad even with the shipping but, unfortunately, now that I moved to NY I have to pay NYS sales tax which is high. But saving anywhere between $1.00-$1.20 a roll is a big deal in the long run.
Granted, I am not buying it at my local store. But they are my local lab as well. So if I am saving money on film, I am most likely putting it back in to their shop by ordering more prints/bigger prints, etc. If I didn't have that extra little cash, I know I wouldn't be getting as much stuff from them.

I found a perfectly functional bulk roller in a back lane a few years ago and have started rollng my own, in part thanks to Kin Lau's recommendation. I just picked up 100' of Tri-X. It's certainly cheaper - around around $2.50 a roll of 36, plus a benefit is being able to load short rolls, ie. 12 exp, for camera tests and so on.

I'll have to drop by Downtown Camera next week when I have jury duty. Their website is near useless since there's no film info. I'll have to checkout the "used gear". If their AGFA prices are as good as Photo-co's, I'll be happy.
