Want a bet they are holding it out of the first batch so they can soak folks as a limited edition, like they did with the X100?

Absolutely
The Black Edition is still selling for $300-400 more on the bay!
I prefer the look of the silver and black and am surprised that they don't offer a special kit edition of it too. People like accessories.

You know, this is the first thing that Fuji has done that really irritates me.

Think about it. Black bodies for years have been favored by pros as less conspicuous and non reflective.

What group does Fuji seem to favor? Not pros. This is insane.

It is especially irking if you bought an x100 when they first came out, sold it and bought the black body in the limited edition kit, and now can't upgrade.

This is pure insanity for fuji - they are poking a finger in the eye of their BEST customers.

Just FYI, I ordered and then cancelled my pre-order and I'm so irritated, I may never upgrade this camera - the x100 is slow focus but great.

Really? The x100 is more classically styled than the other fujis. Maybe that's why they want to bring it out in silver.

Who really cares anyway - if you don't want to pay the premium buy the silver.

In fairness, the X100 isn't a pro camera, Fuji know it's sold on a retro-charm platform.

They aren't screwing anyone, if you don't feel the black version is worth more, don't pay for it.

Pros can reclaim the cost of cameras, in the UK you can reclaim the VAT, and depreciation. Maybe Fuji realise this, and that's why they charge more for the black paint finish that is so vital to professionals.

Black? I'd like to see orange/lilac. Black is so ordinary and still anyone who isn't blind can see camera in your hands. In this regard Pentax does much better.

No black X100s

No black X100s

Quote from Steve Huff on the X100s :
"and just what some of you wanted to hear (NOT)! - I also asked Fuji if this will come in black and they told me a big fat “NO” but there may be a special edition down the road like they did with the X100."

Which is good because I just bought a black X100 :D

Yeah, I have to agree. I cannot feel sorry for someone not getting the color they want.

Also, remember the black come with extra accessories. "Kit includes black X100, a genuine leather ever-ready case, a lens hood, an adapter ring and a protective filter."

It was still over priced.

I'm kinda disappointed black X100S will be yet another useless special edition, but whatever, the red S makes up for it.

There is no such thing as overpriced. Since purchase isn't required by the state with penalties if you do not purchase, then this is a free exchange of product for a price on an 'open market' with competing products. Of course, Fujifilm is playing it smart and came out with a niche product that about 100,000 people out of billions have said, "OK, I'll buy". Fujifilm is in business to make money. Evil capitalism and all that.

All the cameras I have had so far have been black, with one exception several years ago, all chosen to be less noticeable. I am beginning to wonder, however, if a switch to silver for a street-type camera might not be even less intimidating to the folks around, as it would brand me (correctly) as an amateur and not a pro.

I much prefer the look of the black X100.

Say all you want about the fact that Fuji isn't really "screwing" anyone, about how they are a company out to make money, etc. etc. but I can't imagine it would kill them to release a black version of the camera at the same price as the silver. And it would make all those who prefer black happy customers.

The X20 will come in two colours (at no premium) and the X-E1 is available in two colours. It doesn't really make sense why the X100s won't.

And, btw, there really isn't a profit motive in making and selling 10K units of $1,400 retail camera.

Really? Let's say the profit is $400... for the special edition. That's $4,000,000 on one camera series. That's not a motive?

At the press conference for Fuji at CES in Las Vegas...the World Marketing Dir. Mr Iida made it clear that the new both version of the new X-100s would be appearing in quantity in March. For all markets. Here is the link to my store from the press conference.

Pricing is a fixed cost issue not one open to whim. Fuji see the X100S as an important product Mr.Iida and Fuji CEO for USA are very focused on not dropping the ball. So trying to squeeze people on price is the last thing they want. Dealers will always take advantage of market forces on popular products.

That was my original point.
