I just got one from my local photo shop. They say that 2-4 come in every few months. They think that Nikon USA is not carrying them, but that they are still being made. I got it for list price, nothing extra.

I had an order pending at Amazon in the US since December 10th, 2009 but continued to check other sources. It appeared in stock at Roberts Imaging in Indiana on February 23, 2010 for $1999.97 with free shipping and I snagged it. Kudos to Roberts - great price and service!

One of the tracking numbers on the external carton revealed that the scanner shipped from Tokyo to the US in late January.

9000ed can still be found in multiple sites even the wait period is bit long (4-7 weeks). The 5000ed is really gone....I haven't had any luck locating one.
