Hi Folks,
I have been wanting one of those for a while now. They aren't very common in Europe... Is there any place that sells them that I have been missing? Of course inspecting one in person would be best, but that doesn't seem possible.
There's always the possibility to order from Japan, but having to return one because of faded RF patch or so would be a major pain. Is judging the RF patch from pictures through the VF a reasonably reliable method?
My other question would be about eyepiece diopters- are any available for the P, or the 7, or any ideas for DIY (might open another thread about that..)?
Thanks for your thoughts!
J.
Retinax,
regarding your question concerning eyepiece diopters --
my recollection is that Canon made 3 replacement eyepiece assemblies for the P, but I have never seen one.
regarding DIY, this thread may start you off,

Good luck.

I just put a very nice Canon IIF LTM rangefinder on the classifieds here today. Yes, I am in Oregon, but the camera is nice and I have a lot of experience shipping internationally. Been on eBay for many years. Currently have on the current account 604 100% positive feedbacks.
This camera is great, but my Kiev previously owned was better. I dislike loading these "bottom loading" models where only the bottom plate comes off.
My Kiev, the whole bottom of the camera came off. I also have a nice Industar61 LTM lens for this camera, and would consider selling that lens, but it's one of the nicest FSU lens I have come across. I wish it were a Contax mount, as I intend to find another 1950's Kiev.
Think about it... ad posted today on RFF. You would be hard pressed to find a Canon RF IIF this nice.
If you want to see my feedback on eBay, my user id is kuzano.

I have had good luck with JAUCE auctions, being patient. My Canon 7 came from there with a nice 50/1.8. Prices are better for my location than the classic auction site. However be warned that there are miscellaneous charges - bank charges, handling, tax, packing, local post - to be reckoned with. All my experiences with the site have been good.

I waited and waited for a good 7 or P. Finally gambled on a 7 from the list that turned out to be an instant fail.
Raid set me up with his repair guy who replaced the entire shutter crate. Worked fine ever since.
I finally contacted Jiri in Japan (I had purchased from him before.) and asked him to find me a P.
He came through with a like-new camera at a reasonable price. Beautiful camera to use!
I liked it so well I dumped my M's.
No regrets!

Dear Rick,
Jiri Ecer? Yes, he's great. My Canon P is also from him.

I've just seen a Canon P advertised in Austria (private seller).
PM me, if you want me to forward the ad.
The guy at MWClassic seems OK, but the website was left to go out of date and I 'ordered' a body and a spool from them which it turned out had already been sold, so that was frustrating. I wouldn't try again with them, but you never know.

I have had the worst buying experience with MWClassics some years ago. Will never try them again.
Leicashop is the best source IMO, they don't sell broken stuff like MWC.
If you buy from Japan you will have to pay around 30% in Taxes when the camera arrives (VAT + import duties)

Dear retinax,
I just realised the seller — who had initially asked the prospective buyers to suggest a price — has now added a price that is definitely above the sum I would be prepared to pay

My Canon P and lens have arrived but due to surgery recover have not had a chance to use them. But had no disappointments as far as visual or tinkering with them.
