Does anybody know of other places to purchase 5222 besides the Film Emporium? What about their prices and service?

Do you know of any other brands, such as Ilford or Fuji, of B&W motion picture stock for sale in the United States, and who handles them?

Here you go:

Occasionally I see it on Ebay, I search under "Eastman Film". I have bought direct from Kodak, they are very professional, polite, and take VISA. Had a can of 5231 Plus-X in two days. Not bad!

You're welcome. Looking forward to seeing your XX photos and comments here. Add some to my XX thread, and our group XX flickr forum, if you are so inclined.

I wonder if perhaps this group could petition Kodak to sell XX in 100' reels, specifically for use in bulk loaders. Certainly they're tooled up for it--maybe they could be convinced that this could serve as a new market for an old product.

Anyone in Europe or any other part of the world know if Kodak ships internationally or whether they have local distributors of this particular film? I'm dying to try this film out.

I think in Europe Kodak has a Cinema Products Distributor in the UK :confused: TomA knows for sure.
I know there are many other Kodak distributors around the world, besides our one in NYC.

If there's anybody else in the South Florida/Miami area maybe we could put together a decent size order for multiple rolls.

I bought some XX recans from a guy in Hollywood, Florida. That's in the Miami area, right Al? Wonder if there are other Cinema dealers with shortends and recans in Hollywood FLA?

Do you remember who or where in Hollywood Florida? Where I live in North Miami I'm about half way between Hollywood and Miami, maybe ten miles from either one.

About 20 years ago some company was making an over-sized bulk film loader, looked just like the Watson, that would hold a 200 ft. roll. That would be great for a lot of short ends that are over 100 ft. Does anybody remember anything about this?

Hmmm I just looked through my old Ebay transactions, and his name is not jumping out. He had alot of Pro Cinema stuff for sale, like Arriflex, Mitchell, etc so I think he was a Pro dealer, as I recall. Had alot of 16mm and 35mm film of all kinds.

Do they shoot alot of movies in Hollywood Florida?

TomA buys XX by the case. Twenty or 24 400' cans tightly packed in styrofoam directly from Kodak. WHEW! Last time I ordered it, one can was $129 plus shipping. That'll make about 70-36exp rolls of XX.

Actually the "center" of the South Florida movie/TV industry is right here in North Miami. Everything from Joe Panther to Miami Vice to Gentle Ben to Deep Throat. Linda Lovelace, the star of Deep Throat, used to live about ten blocks from me. I guess that I should just ask around (about Double-X, not Linda). We also have a couple of movie studios here, but no supply place that I know of other than equipment rental.

I should also check with Dale Labs near Hollywood. Now a Leica dealer and quality pro lab, they got their start selling reloads of Eastman Color Negative 5251 and then 5254, mostly via mail oder. "Slides, Prints, and a Free Roll of Film for one low price".

I don't think I can afford a case of Double-X by myself, not at that price!

I've been reading the mentioned thread, nice pics!... I would like to try the film, after visiting filmemporium.com I have some questions... what are shrot/medium/long ends? Are those terms refered to the length of the film? Do they usually have the film in stock? ... Thanks and I hope my english skills are enough to make my message understandable...

If anyone is interested in 5222 XX film already rolled send me a PM and I will get back to you.

I recently got a large supply and spent a weekend rolling the film to 36 exp rolls and have enough for a couple years so I am willing to sell some to those who want to try a few rolls before getting 400'.

Marsopa, the magazine on a motion picture camera is interchangeable. It has a feed spool and a take-up spool. At the lab they cut the film, develop what was used, and what's left on the feed spool is an "end". Since they don't want to run out of film in the middle of a scene just about every roll produces an "end". I'm not really sure, but I think less than about 200 feet is a short end.

Thanks Al Kaplan for the explanation. So, I'm not wrong if I wonder that you can't ask for an specific length...

I suppose that if you're really lucky they might have a roll about the length you want. Why don't you try it out first. A couple of people have offered to sell a roll or two here on the forum.
