Where to buy light seal kit + battery for Canonet GL17 GIII in Germany?

Hi Everyone,

I just received my first Canonet QL17 GIII the other day. Of course the light seals have been completely removed.

I saw an ebayer that sells revitilizing kits but not outside of the USA.

Does anyone know where to get the adhesive strips and a new battery for this camera in Germany or the EU?

As per the battery???
Have you tried zinc-air batteries used for hearing aids? There should be one that fits your battery compartment well or with the use of a rubber band as o-ring.
Those are cheap and have the right V, but they last really short times

Yes, get Jons kit, it fits correctly and has instructions. I have done about 4 Canonets with his kit.

I would echo the endorsement of Jon Goodman. From what I understand he will ship anywhere in the known universe. 🙂

He includes excruciatingly detailed instructions, including such things as when to take a break. 🙂

The hard part is getting the old stuff out. The old seals tend to break down into crumbs and black goo. Jon includes a tool which can help with this.

the canonet lens is great, Kevin. And a good focal length too.
I also bought the interslice light seal kit. I bought the cheapo version, for 6.80$ incl shipping. Replaced a few cameras' seals but still have some left.
Battery, try to find some zinc-air cells in photo shops. I went to a shop here in NL and simply asked if they have a replacement battery for the old mercury types, aka zinc-air batteries, of approx that size. They did. It says "Rittz Battery model MX675 1.35V "Mercury free Zinc/air Replaces PX675" etc. and, on the bottom, "Rittz international Holland, 4273 CA Hank - Holland

you might get lucky by emailing them.
These are not the 625 but the 675 thus the smaller versions, some padding was needed.

I think you will find the lens works well for traditional BW such as Tri X as well as for the newer chromogenic films like Ilford's XP super 2. You might want a yellow filter for these new C41 BW films.

I have the older version of the QL17 and enjoy the quality a lot. I also have a Canonet 28 that I think has the same lens coating. Both perform very nicely.

BTW Pherdinand, the battery that came with the camera works - I am only interested in replacing it down the line. In fact, this one looks new:

Anyways, I think this camera looks and handles great. And so inexpensive, amazing !!!

I have been reading posts about all those russian cameras but I wont go there (yet).

Depending on who you talk to, they tell me that this cell in the GIII will either work perfectly or render the meter so inaccurate as to be unusable. <semi grin here>

What I've found out in actuality is that in lower light, in my "test light box" (the blank bathroom wall with the overhead light and the vanity lights on dimmers) the GIII with the "improper" cell agrees perfectly with the Pentax (and now also with the Mamiya SD) at a setting such as ISO 400 and 1/30.

In my bright test box (looking straight out a window in daylight) the GIII is about 1/2 stop on the overexposure side than the Pentax.

I would say that both are somewhere within the ballpark. 🙂 Both seem to expose properly in both low and bright lights.

If you think of the exposure reading as a suggestion and not as a commandment 🙂 I think you'll find it to be accurate. I can't think of a single shot I took with the GIII that was badly under or over exposed. 🙂

I have a canonet now (cortesy of another RFF member, thanks Rob) and i have ordered yesterday also the interslice kit for it.
I haven't tried yet this little wonderfull camera but it look likes it's going to be a winner.

You are in Portungal !! Wonderful place. I will be returning again in September (with the Canonet). Do you know any camera shops in Lisabon that sell old rangefinders by the way ???

I don't actually live in Lisbon, so i don't know any camera shop in Lisbon who sells rangefinders. Where i live it's very difficult to find such camera shops. Maybe you can post later some photos taken with your canonet of my beautifull country.

I'm in Évora, a beautifull city, Unesco World Heritage. A city full of history. But also quite hot in the Summer. Almost 40º C this afternoon.
