Hi I recently bought serenar 50mm f1.8 from one of my local shops, and I wanted to get lense hood for it since it had some scratches on the front element.
But the canon internet catalogue stated that this lense uses 40mm as filter diameter but no internet malls seem to sell 40mm diameter lense hood at all.
Am I doing something wrong? I am kind of confused

40 to 40.5 filter adapter ring, then 40.5 hood from ebay. Also, there are probably some 40 mm hoods on ebay, too.
I have done much the same thing. A 40mm to 43mm stepping ring (adapter) works well with a 43mm hood as well - these are sometimes easier to find than 40.5mm ones and are suitable for a 50mm f1.8 lens though they do let in a little more light at the margins. All of my LTM glass and similar lenses uses this kind of system with variations depending only on the lenses filter ring size: Canon 50mm f1.5, Canon 50mm f1.8 (both chrome and black/chrome), Leica 50mm f1.5, Nikkor 50mm f1.4, Industar 50mm f2.8, Jupiter 50mm f2. etc. I also use 43mm for some early 135mm lenses in Nikkor mount - thought no stepping ring is needed as these are natively 43mm.
