It seems that no one sells the tiffen black and white filters kit any more for 34mm. Even Tiffen does not show that this is only in larger sizes. anybody have ideas for either the kits or reasonably single filters?

I saw some filters (yellow and red) in 34mm on bhphotovideo.com....by Helios I believe.

I went through this trying to get green and orange 34mm filters for the Leica Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 recently. I looked everywhere and all I could find were used filters from the 1950s, except for S.R.B. Photographic in the UK. They will custom sized filters ... including 34mm.

Leitz will surely be happy to sell them to you. I hope your pockets are very deep.
More seriously, the best place to look for these 'odd' filter sizes is the loose items bin in most camera shops. Twenty or more years ago every shop had one of these, with items as cheap as 50 cents. Alas, those days are now history, but surely some shops must still have a box of unloved stuff lying around somewhere. Ask at the counter, ideally to anyone on the staff older than 30.

No, Leica does not sell 34mm filters today. I tried that approach.
I ended up getting a pair of used Leica filters (new circa 1953) from a vintage camera specialty shop in Austria (US$180), and a new pair of filters from SRB (US$60). Although it is two sets of "green and orange" filters, their spectral absorbtion characteristics are completely different.

filterfind.net is a good source for hard to find filters. Their website seems a bit messed up right now; I'd try giving them a call.

Search eins filter . They are one of the thinnest filters out there from Japan. Not sure if they sell in US so may need a proxy to source them

A caveat on SRB. The yellow filters are very pale, and have almost zero thread outside the filter glass so your screw-on lens hood falls off. Orange filters are nearer red, but at least have some thread on the mounts.

Helioplan does have nice coated filters in 34 mm...on specialty order. Generally, 50$ per filter.I saw some filters (yellow and red) in 34mm on bhphotovideo.com....by Helios I believe.

I use step up rings for original 34mm and 34.5mm filter threads to the more common 37mm size. There are numerous filters for the 37mm thread, both cheap and expensive. The step up rings have no impact on anything and do not block the viewfinder or vignette the lenses, even with a 37mm hood.

Indeed, the SRB filters are modern glass and very different from the old Leica filters I also purchased. As example, I put all four filters I bought (yellow and green Leica, orange and green SRB) on a small light box and photographed them with both the M10-M and M10-R so you can see just how different they are:

Comparing Filters ...
They all do different things on the M10-M and on film with the M4-2, using the same Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 lens. Only way to know for sure is to test ...

There are at least a couple of threads about filters for the 40mm Heliar since it was released 2+ years ago. I had both Heliopans and SRB. Customer service from SRB was very good...the only downside of the filters is their somewhat thick filter rings.

I'll look into this. On might have thought CV considered that modern filters available when the lens was designed and produced. Knowing that...perhaps CV should have an arrangement with someone like Tiffen to continue the 34 mm black and white filter kit for a reasonable price?

I've said it before and I'll say it again... considering the styling of this lens and the fact they provided an LTM version for use on old Leicas, I'm eternally amazed that they didn't make the outer diameter of the barrel 36mm so you could use old stock A36 filters or an A36-E39 step-up ring.On might have thought CV considered that modern filters available when the lens was designed and produced.
They really missed an open goal with that.

Leica made the same mistake with the Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6: a faithful reproduction of the lens formula and superb imaging, but they changed the front standard so the original filter adapter doesn't work, and you can't adapt 39mm filters and use the lens hood.
