+1, I'm interested in this as well.
Local bookstores will take at a deep discount, sometimes they won't even take them.
ebay ? RFF classifieds ? shipping books can be expensive if they're big
Offloading to like minded friends ? though I have trouble asking friends for money

Amazon and eBay are good places to sell. Ship book rate / media mail to save on shipping.

If they are unusual/valuable enough, you could try Photoeye's Book auctions...

I haven't sold or bought anything there, but I check it out regularly.

Amazon is a pretty good option. With a bias (but no limitation) to German language books and German buyers/sellers, there would also be ZVAB (http://www.zvab.com/index.do) - the largest online antiquarian marketplace.

This might open a can of worms, but is there value in keeping books that don't necessarily fit a type you like ?
Likewise I have quite a few books where I appreciate the photography, but don't quite like. Some I've grown to like over time, others not.
I think there's value in having access to variety, but then again those aren't the books I page through most often.
