Where would you send a Fed-2 for repairs now?

In 2009, I had an excellent and very reasonable job done on a Zorki 3m in the UK.

He did a CLA on a Zorki-4 for me and I was impressed to find that he even stripped the lens down and supplied a list of the adjustments made. I think he is in a different class to any of the other repairmen I have used.

Ah've bought lenses from Oleg and had 2 x CLAs. Excellent work. I'm waiting for a Kiev atm. Oleg has advised, that shipping times to and from Russia are very slow since New Year.

Took 4 days from UK to Russia, then nearly 3 weeks to reach him. Customs seem to be the problem. He posted back to me last Friday, so I'll monitor the time taken. Ah'd thoroughly recommend his work but contact him to see if shipping has improved.

From folk on other websites it's usually been a 4/5 week turnaround to/from USA. Last two times for me (UK) was around 3 weeks.

Just got my Kiev back from Oleg - 9 days from his home town. So, it looks like the postal service is almost back to normal.

To repair or not? My Kiev cost me £10, the J8-£6. As said above , both the camera and lens were very dirty but in v. good condition, structurally. Used my trusty auto scratch cream to clean them. Ah bought them with the intention of sending off for CLA. New shutters and CLA+ postage cost me £46. A total of £62.

The camera looks and feels like new. Had I bought one from eg Fedka, it would have cost me another £25-30. So yes , if ye shop around enough for bargains, repair is worthwhile.

A few months ago I got an FED S with it's originsal 50mm f/2 lens for a good price, or so I thought. When I received the camera it was completely intact, with no dents, scratches, or nonsense. The rangefinder was surprisingly nice, with superb contrast. Unfortunately, the camera had sat in it's case for untold decades, and the grease in all the moving parts had become green glue.

I sent the camera to Oleg this week, I will let you know how good the service was, and I'll post a few pics of the camera once I get it back.

I'd agree. He does it for the love of it and not the money. He said he enjoyed keeping his hand in.

There is absolutely no reason not to use him for expensive German cameras that are a downright copies of Feds and Zorkis but I don't think he is too keen on the Kiev/Contax world.

There is another chap in the UK whose details I have lost who is an expert on Kievs/Contax etc. I once asked him if he'd do a Contax I. He said 'What's the point....'

I'm wondering how much or perhaps not so much have you used that camera. 2 years ago on a CLA isn't long at all. Sounds like you need more than a cla.

It's had about a dozen rolls through it since the CLA. It really shouldn't be acting up. At this point, I've thought about just getting another Fed-2 and use this one as a shelf decoration since I've had nothing but trouble out of it.
