where's bill?

Bill is alive and well. I saw him weekend before last. He lives down the road from me. In fact, we're going to see a B&W photo exhibit in Chapel Hill, NC along with our wives this weekend.

He posts once in a while; not as much as he used to. Understandably so -- if you followed his threads you'd know why the need for a sabbatical. Some of us hardly get noticed. Some others get shouted down (drop by drop -- I don't mean literal "shouting").

He used to start some very good threads.

Thanks for the update Cap.

He posted recently about a story that got accepted, with photos, in a local Catholic newspaper. It's to be published in June, and he doesn't know if it will be in an online version or not. I think he's been working pretty determinedly to create some business shooting and writing.

That's what I think, too. He was getting quite serious about the whole stock photography thing, thw writing and the shooting for newspapers and such. Big chance he's taken the bull by the horns and is at least paving the way to become more or less a pro photog. If my calculations are right, you'll have to admire him for it. How many of us dream of becoming pro but never follow up on that dream? Many, no doubt; me included.

Bill quit posting after a "heated exchange". His name no lnger appears in the list of members. I looked. He has walked off before, and come back. This is the first time that I remember him deleting his member profile. The posting on the "sold a story" was months old, and was revived by a member asking for a follow-up.

He quit. That blows. I'll miss his posts. Some of his comebacks would have me laughing at my screen. If there was an RFF hall of fame for posters, he'd be in it.

update...

somehow, bill's profile changed and the software recognized him as waiting for confirmation by email, i.e. not a member YET!!
i have no idea how this happened and jorge is equally in the dark.

bill thought he had been suspended.
i thought he was miffed and was just laying low.

the problem has been corrected and hopefully bill will be back asap.

i feel really dreadful about this...

Hi , I believe Bill Mattocks seems to have decided to re arrange his personal priorities. I had corresponded on and off on a few occasions with him and noticed his 'absence' around Dec-Jan. His profile had removed all direct contact thru email or pms at RFF.

He also had a site with various topics , family , friends, photography. The site was still operating when I checked in January. However he had removed all contact provisions thru email and the website.

Personally I believe Bill decided to take a break from RFF and rangefinder photography. He was heading toward digital because it suited him and what he was doing with photography. My guess is he may come back if he becomes reinterested in film/rangefinder photography and he has spare time. He also sounded to be quite busy in work.
