The LX5 is a pretty sweet little camera.
It fits in a pants pocket rather easily.
The IQ approaches the m43 cameras but not reaching.
It has a very intuitive interface and sets up for hyper focal shooting very easy and fast.

Where are the shooters with this camera?
Don't leave me alone out here....

I've been shooting with mine for a over a month, but it's just been personal snaps and I don't have anything worth posting here.
As much as I like it for what it is, what is isn't one of my film cameras, so I tend not to shoot anything very serious with it.

I'm long past due to pick up a digital P&S. Was thinking this or the S95. How do you find the size of the LX5 in practice?

In-store, it always seems just a bit bigger than I want it to be so I'm leaning towards the Canon.

I'm trying to decide between it and an Olympus e-pl1 as my flight bag/around the world camera. I'm having a tough time. I want something small (doesn't have to be pocketable), good quality and a great fast wide-angle. The Lx5 fits the bill but the olympus is tempting.

Battery design! Whatever anyone can argue for improved design/performance I had the devil's job to buy a second Panasonic battery for my LX3. They just were not available. Now, the ones I have will not work in the LX5 and third party batteries will not be recognized by the camera if I understand correctly. It is one thing to bind a customer into your expensive battery but another if there is no supply. I haven't got the energy to 'upgrade' this time. That is why I cannot keep you company Don but enjoy, I think they are great pocket cameras.

Apples and oranges. You should really compare the Pen to the Panasonic GF-1. Personally I like the Panasonic better.

I looked at both quite carefully. The Canon is definitely more pocketable but I didn't think the IQ was quite as good and the macro not even close to the Panasonic. I like to have good macro.

I love the feel and layout of the gf1 Dave, however I like the ooc jpgs better from Oly and the fact it has in-body stablilation so it can help all lenses. They just don't have any wides for it yet. Give me a 17 f2 and the kit lens or a 10 f2.8 and the kit lens and i"d be sold. I'm also looking at size and the panny is smaller.

The LX5 is like a small version of the GF1. It feels similar and the controls are similar also. It fits in my jeans pocket very easy. The battery is amazing. I bought a 2nd but really don't need it. Power management is as good as it gets.
TheIQ is superb for a camera this size. The macro works great and the lens is sharp at every focal length/focus distance. It sets up for hyperfocal distance easy with the fast option of AF in a pinch.
You just hit the top of the 4 way controller and you have AF.
There is an adjustable AF target and if you use the smallest with spot metering, it's very accurate for focus and metering.
Great camera.

I have pretty much decided to sell out of my E-P1 and M43 stuff and picking up an S95. I am still debating the LX-5, but to me small size is what I am looking for. IQ of both small cameras look excellent to me, and I don't think I even want the options re accessories that the LX-5 offers. I just want a small P&S which will make excellent images for what it is. I think either will be what I want, I am not 100% sure which one is right for me though, at least not yet.
