Am contemplating a 35mm lens for my epson R-D1, M8.2, and my Xpro1.
Options are: contax 35/2.8 (i think its 2.8), voightlander 35/1.4, Elmar 35/3.5, and Summaron 35/3.5.
I am aware some of these need adapters on some of the cameras. I wonder if the summaron can alo be used on non Leica cameras.

Any advice would be apreciated...

How about color skopar? It is very solid performer availble brand new at very good price.

The Summicron-C 40 mm would do fine as well, as would the Perar 35. You could use a non-goggled Summaron as well, it has the same mount as all other M lenses. The 2.8 version is the better one. A goggled lens with the goggles removed is unusable on RF coupled cameras.

I have the Voigtlander 35mm MC f/1.4, great lens.

It has unpredictable flare though, sometimes it flares beautifully but on some other occasions it flares like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes it doesn't flare at all.

I really wanted the f/1.4 though so I haven't looked at the other 35mm lenses slower than f/1.4.

i like the idea of the elmar and the non-goggle summaron, as they are quite small (as is the perar in fact). The CV 35/1.4 is fairly small too...

I used the CV 1.4 on my RD1, M8, and now on my M2 and have been happy with it on all of those cameras.

I bought the circular hood and it seems to have stopped the circular flare issues. Unlike the Ultron 28 f/2, the other lens I use, it does have veiling flare when shooting into the light.

I actually think I liked it best for color on the M8.

It's capable of a touch of magic wide open but is certainly no pre-asph lux. The coma is has wide open is also not pre-asph lux level, but is present.

The zeiss zm lenses are wonderful; the 35 f/2.8 C-Biogon is quite compact and at $815 new under your $1000 limit. As for the voigtlander--having used both--I would go with the very compact and very reasonably priced Skopar f/2.5 in either LTM with an adaptor or the M-mount; whichever you can find at a price you're comfortable with. More info on both voigtlanders is available at cameraquest.com

I have a circular hood but all kinds of flares still pop up occasionally.
