Which 4GB SD Card should I get for M8?

I have been using 2GB Sandisk Extreme II SD card and a generic 2GB SD and I will be on vacation for two(2) week and thinking that I should get 4GB SD card so I can store more DNG files without worrying about getting ti filling up.

I see that "Transcend 150x 4GB Secure Digital Card(TS4GSD150)" work in M8 but I do not want to spend $55.00+ on each of this and I see that the price of "Transcend 133x 4GB Secure Digital Card(TS4GSD133)" are reasonable.

Does anyone know that Transcend 133x 4GB SD(TS4GSD133) will work in M8?

Does 150x and 133x make a big difference shooting in RAW on M8?

I believe that I can get two(2) 133x 4GB SD for the price of one(1) 150x 4GB SD...

It is too bad that M8 does not support HDSD yet....

My question is for Leica M8.

I am wondering if I should pay x2 for 150x Transcend instead of 133x...

losing 4Gb of pictures if it fails. The pain of losing a 4Gb card is twice the pain of losing a 2Gb. I doubt I will ever use really large cards after hearing about a local wedding photographer who turned to digital about a year ago and shot the bulk of a wedding on a 4Gb card...... and lost all the shots when the card failed.

Use 1's or 2's and rotate them. Particularly if you are going somewhere special that you may not visit again for some time.

Also remember that memory card fraud is big right now. Shipments of counterfeit cards are being confiscated in record numbers. Card fraud is often aimed at labeling low speed cards, or seconds, with high speed labels. Bigger cards are targeted because of the higher dollars and demand. Much of the fraud is internet based, but retailers are subject to loss as well.

With the rebate offer that Sandisk has going (for the second time), I wouldn't look anywhere else. Assuming that the M8 cannot take the 4GB SDHC, the 2GB Extreme III's are going for $17 ea for one, $12 ea for two, etc. I've been getting the SD and CF from Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/IDSSD2GE3.html (http://www.adorama.com/pdfs/rebates/sandiskx_062908.pdf).

If you can use 4GB SDHC, then they are going for $20 and $15 ea. for one or two, with the bonus of free shipping.

I don't see the advantage of very large capacity cards for photographic use. Unless you're going to use the full 4Gbs in one shooting session (highly unlikely), then what's the problem with using several cards?

Using several lower capacity cards reduces the risk that all your precious captures are lost if a card fails. Low capacity cards are cheaper and arguably may be more reliable in the camera than the high capacity, high-tech cards.

For me the only application for large capacity cards is long term, portable file storage - like music on my PMP. I would have no cause (and it would be reckless) to store images on an SD card long term.

I have only had one card fail in 7 years, and it was easily fixed with a undelete program. My advice, when you are out shooting, I mean really shooting, less to think about with gear is better, go for the larger card if you can.

Cards do fail, but when travelling, more importantly, cards get stolen or lost. Get smaller cards, twice the number you think you will need, and get a backup device like a portable harddisk/reader. Backup every evening and keep the full card and the backup device in separate places.

I always wonder why people who have been so accustomed (until the ripe old year of 2006) to rotating their film canisters every 36 (max) shots now want to be able to carry uber amounts of shots on one, itsy bitsy, easy to lose, easy to get information corrupted, memory cards. 🙂

Seriously.

Snag an Epson P-3000 or p-5000 storage device and more small 2GB cards.

Even for my wedding work I'm still working with 4GB cards on my 5D's - I carry 28GB worth of cards with me, and usually, a laptop with a card reader.

I would just not want to put all my eggs in one basket 😀

Yes I've got the Transcent 4 Gig 133x and 150x.
Haven't noticed any difference in speed when taking pictures and write times. But I don't usually fill up the buffer by clicking like a demon :angel:.
