I've got the ZM 35 biogon, enjoying it thoroughly, and swapping it around between my M2 and ZI. But these last two weeks I've found myself wanting to get closer/tighter shots with family, landscape, and street stuff (I leave macro for my dslr).

Is the 50mm focal length the next logical step up? Or go more to 75/85/90/135 therebouts?

And the followup to this: holy crap there are tons of 50's to choose from. I've been reading all day, my head is spinning.. and.. ugh. Tooo many to choose from! Raid made the problem worse by comparing so many of them. I was actually considering getting the ZM, but I've got a lot of Zeiss glass here with the contax G2, want a little change, maybe play with leica stuff.

Bring it on 🙂

I'm someone who loves the 50mm focal length, so I'd suggest giving it a try. What I'd suggest, though, is that since you are unfamilier with it, get something like a Jupiter 8 50/2. They are dirt cheap, very high quality for FSU lenses and give the best bang for buck for experimenting with that focal length. If it pleases you, then you can look at some of the many other options that are out there. If not, you're out very little and can go on to explore the options of 75 to 105 lenses.

Good luck & have fun!

LTM and contax. I personally prefer the later black lenses as I actually have had better quality with them. Try to find one for $15 - $30 without too obscene a shipping charge.

50 is a signficant step away from the 35. i see it as a very short tele.
but...i would go for a 75 or 85 from 35.
i think that the 35/75 is a killer combo and would cover about 80% of most shooting needs.

then go for the 25 and 50.

I've been kicking around what to add to my 35mm. I've gotten good use/shooting practice with the 35mm, and will probably add the 75mm next. As said before, it will cover a lot of bases.
