Okay, trying to short-circuit a bunch of research, which camera is best, for using Leica R lenses with R/M adapter,, to the camera?

I think I'm asking:
- which is the best digital sensor, if I like the M9
- which camera has the best ability to focus, likely using Live-view
- shortest shutter lag

Lenses I'll potentially be using:
- 28mm shift lens
- 60/2.8 Macro
- 80/1.4
- 100/2.8 Macro
- 180/3.4

Thanks all

No personal experience here, but wouldn't that be the brief of the M240?
Canon dSLR (especially 5d family) seems to be a popular choice for R lens shooters too.

GXR-M
nex7
fuji xe-1
micro fourthirds cameras if you don't mind the 2x crop

That's a good list maintai.. Here are some additional comments

Slr lenses like the Leica r may feel big or lens heavy in terms of balance on cameras like Nex or gxr. Heavier cameras like the Fuji xp1 will tend to provide a better feel in terms of balance.

The Nex series probably has the worst UI for photographers (kind of iPhone like),, the nex7 on the other hand is the closet to getting away from that followed by the nex6.

In m43, the omd is IMHO the best for legacy lens support due to the great in body stabilization system.

W/ that all being said, the metabones speedbooster w/ either the nex6/7 or the Fuji xp1/xe1 maybe something to consider as well, since it is purported to give u a one stop advantage and a 50 is a 50 again...

There is a image thread on getdpi using the speedbooster on a Nex...

I don't think your right re. weight. The Nex becomes a digital back behind your lens. It is different way of looking at it. Also, I find the Nex menu system okay, but then I set my settings and let it be..... Peaking on these Sony's is great!

Having said all this, I understand the Fujis have the best sensor on the market.

I have used a nex5n w/ a evf in the past w/ a lot of different legacy lenses. The lighter slr or rf lenses were no problem.. When I look at his list of r lenses, the 100 and 180 to me are going to feel a lens heavy IMHO.

The nex7 tri-navi setup helps a lot.. But in general once u need to go back in to change something in the menus...

On the other hand, for csc cameras Nex may have best movie implementation (my 1% usage)..

I struggled with this for months and came to the final conclusion that NO digital camera will suit me with a Leica R lens. I am currently using the 80 Lux on the R4 and it is amazing. Not only the images but the total experience of using a Leica camera itself. I hope to get an R8/R9 eventually but have no desire to turn an M into an unwieldy, add-on modular unit at $7000 using a heavy long R lens on it. Nor money for that matter. I just don't like the jack-of-all-trades kind of approach in form or function, not to mention the price.

Thought I would like the other bodies mentioned (Nex 5/7, etc.) but the feel just didn't work out for me. So, it is film only for me with R lenses.:p I am perfectly happy with the X1 and a used M9 down the road will finish my digital career.

In the meantime, I am working on "film for life" projects along with the digital images from normal Leica cameras.

YMMV, and that is great!

Just not for me.

For the lenses you have listed. Seriously I would get a 5Dii or 5Diii .
I use a 5Dii with adapted R lenses, Zuikos (OM), M42, and Contax Zeiss .
With the R and Zuikos you literally put the adapter on the camera and the mount is now changed for R or Zuiko.

All of the R lenses you have listed are quite large. I don't think little "soap bar" cameras like the Sony Nex are going to be very comfy even on a tripod. Not to mention sensor size which the 5D's are of course full frame.
