Which Domke bag?

I need to fit:
Nikon F5
28mm F2.8
50mm
200mm 2.8
SB 600
Filters/film
some space for another thing.

What one would you guys recommend?

Either a F-2 or a shopping cart. 😉

I fit that much stuff (F3, not F5) into a F-2 Domke. It is heavy but has enough space for a PB&J sandwich too.

Dude: you need a backpack; preferrably a big backpack.

OR, lose some of that gear and do this:
Nikon F5
28mm F2.8
50mm.......Lil' bit smaller Domke.

F-2 will hold all that and more.

F-2 should be fine with some extra room. F-3X is also good but not much room left including the pockets...

I can carry MF body with 80mm lens attached, plus two extra lenses and extra film back in main compartment of F-3X. Then I can carry films and other things in outer pockets.

F-1 and F-2 are awfully big, and extra space tends to eat up unnecessary gear.
The Domke F-6 might be big enough for that kit. Try before you buy though...

i like the f6 best for more gear.

The f-2 is a great bag. Mine (I suppose all of them, actually) can carry two rangefinder bodies, 3 or 4 lenses, viewfinder, film, miscellaneous accessories, and a bottle of water and a snack. It looks a little odd, but check out the removable backpack conversion straps. They can be a lifesaver.

F3xb would fit this nicely, I don't belive that the F6 is deep enough for the F5 body.

I couldn't live without the two outside pockets on the ends. I use one for unexposed film and the other for exposed film.

When I still lived in SLRville, my main bag was a Domke F2. Lasted through several systems (Canon F-1, Nikon F2/3, Pentax LX/MX, Olympus OM, and finally Minolta 9xi...yeah, I was a bit promiscuous then, but we're talking 20 years here). That one bag dealt with all of them. Your F5 setup? Piece o' cake.

Exactly. The F2 is my suggestion as well.

It is so sad that I recommend F2 every time I had the chance, but still nowhere near owning one.

I have used one of course, that's why I can recommend it. 🙂

It'd be perfect for that kind of load.

Good points Vic, does the J-3 come in canvas material? would that be the F-3X?

The reason I prefer canvas is that it can mold the bag into your body's shape resulting in less swaying and more comfort for long walks.

F-2. It held my heavy Nikon SLR gear before, now it holds two Ms and a bunch of lenses. It just turned 17 years old and is thriving!

The F-3X is slightly smaller. Interior dimensions = 8.5 x 5.5 x 9.0 inches

It is not deep enough for a SLR kit (That's also my complaint about the F). The F-4AF might be a better choice. Interior Dimensions = 9.9 x 8.0 x 11.0 inches

Also, having one metal clasp is faster and more convenient than two.

Yes, the canvas bags will mold to your body, but they also absorb water, and the black and blue ones don't age well, and look ugly when faded. The Olive Drab is a classic Leica M choice. The Sand one has a different color for the strap, which makes it look a bit odd.

On another note, the F-803 vs. J-803, the J-803 is slightly larger

J-803: 13.5 x 4.5 x 10 inches
F-803: 13 x 4 x 9 inches

That extra half an inch does make a difference to a Leica M kit.

I can't believe I know so much about Domke bags. To me a good bag is cheap insurance on an expensive camera. No need to skimp on a few dollars when one bang could cause an expensive repair.
