Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never really had any trouble finding filters for the Summitar - even the UVA. Okay, it's not the sort of thing that crops up all the time on Ebay, but they are out there. Just to prove my point, Peter Loy (link earlier on) has a couple of coloured ones for sale for $18 and another dealer has the UVA (uncoated by the looks of things) for sale at around $33. Both dealers are in Europe.

Tiffen made a filter adaptor for the Summitar. It slips over the end of the lens and allows use of Series VI filters. These appear on eBay now and then.
Tiffen also made a screw-in Series VI adapter for the Summitar. I got one on eBay--it says number 36F-6 on the box, and 36 F 6 on the adapter itself.

Watch that step!
I guess I just lucked out too, I have all the pre 1945 Black Rim "Wetzlar" tapered 36mm filters except the UV and the IR one, also the Polarizer, but they were a swing-on filter not 36mm`s
If anyone has a "Wetzlar" Black Rim IR , I have a chrome postwar IR for trade!

Flim Forever!
The summitar takes dedicated filters, which aren't hard to find. Using a SOOTF, these filters can also be used on the summaron 3.5, elmar 3.5, and Nikkor 35/2.5, or any other 36a lens. Tiffen also made a screw-in vented hood for the summitar which takes series filters(6, I think).

Snorting silver salts
the following are without any purpose in life at my end, since I do not own a lens with these threads:
Leitz 39mm UV chrome
Leitz 39mm Yellow chrome
Leitz 39mm Orange chrome
Canon 40mm ND4 (NOS, 3x)
Canon 43mm ND4 (NOS, 2x only 1 with box)
Take them, they're useless here!
If anyone has any prewar FED-gear to swap it for, I'm interested.

My collection of Leitz filters for the Summitar:
Leitz GDOOK orange filter (2x chrome rim)
Leitz GHIOO UV filter (2x black rim)
Leitz GCYOO green filter (chrome rim)
Leitz GBWOO light yellow filter (chrome rim)
Leitz SL skylight filter (chrome rim)
Kelpan Amber filter (aluminium rim)
They are known as tapered ‘41’ filters
With the Leitz SOOQR adapter I can use my Summitar filters on lenses with ‘39’ thread, e.g. on the Summicron.
The Summitar 41 filters were produced in two types, first the ones with a removable retaining ring, second, the ones with pressed glass, which cannot be removed. Of course, one should pay less for the ones with pressed glass.

The Summitar takes a unique 36mm tapered filter that screws directly into it. As others have said, adapters are available, but I've had no trouble in finding the original filters and fitting them when needed. I always have the UVA filter on it.
As I stated, it is not 36 nor 39 but tapered 41.
