I bought a used Elmar 90/4 from an RFF member and really like the results. I need a lens hood for it, and don't know what to get. The filter that came with it is a push-on (I don't even know how push-on filters are sized). Are there decent screw-in hoods for the Elmar? Novice here ... any info useful.

The lens takes an A36 clamp-on filter. FIKUS/12530 is an adjustable hood for 50-135mm which clamps on the lens or over the filter. Or you could locate a SOOGZ adaptor which coverts the lens to 39mm threaded filters and has a groove which retains the 12575 shade for the later E39 versions of the 90mm f/4 and f/2.8 lenses,or simply a generic 39mm threaded shade.

Hello: The Elmar takes 36mm filters which are either slip fit or use a set screw. A Leitz FIKUS is the universal (35-135) hood for the 36mm Elmars. These are found on the auction site for $40-120, except when you look for them, in less than mint condition. Leitz NY made a set screw 36mm-39mm adapter which allows you to use 39E filters and Hoods; also on the auction site for $40-60.

Hi Gene. It sounds like you have the earlier version of the 90 mm Elmar which uses A36 push-on filters (later ones had a standard 39 mm thread mount). I think I'm right in saying that the best hood for this lens is the adjustable one with the code FIKUS. This works for a variety of different lenses including the 50 mm Elmar and the 135 mm Hektor. I think the later lenses can use the IUFOO clip on hood.

Thanks for the quick replies. You're right, Mark, this is an older one -- an LTM version that I use with an M adapter. For an inexpensive lens, the Elmar delivers pleasing results.
