So, I bought some Leitz fillters on eBay, and they don't fit any of my lenses...
They are Y-1 and Y-2, and appear to have a 36mm male thread on them...
Are there any LTM lenses with a 36mm filter thread, and if so, what are they ?
Thanks...

90mm Elmar and 135mm Hektor are two.

Hello:
A36 was a near standard size for Leitz lenses from the LTM era. E39 was the next generation near "standard" size.

A36 is the slip-on size. Lenses like the Elmar LTM 50mm accept A36 accessories but lack threads for screw-in stuff.

Nope, they use A36/E34 (push-on/threaded).VictorM. said:90mm Elmar and 135mm Hektor are two.
As far as I know, only the Summitar uses the weird tapered-thread 36mm screw-in filters.
(Edit: Sorry VictorM, missed your last post.)

Watch that step!
Sounds like Summitar filters......

I read and it may have been wrong, that the 90mm Elmar and 135 Hektor and possibly other early LTM lenses have what appears to be filter threads, but were really for assembly and disassembly. Some after market filter makers I think made some filters that fit early Leica and Canon LTM lenses (possibly Nikon). My filter set is all slip on for my five LTM lenses.

On my way home from work yesterday, I picked-up a set of vernier calipers that includes a millimeter scale, and miked all my Leica and LTM lenses...
All the LTM push-on stuff is 36 mm OD (Elmar, Hektor, Summar). The 35 & 50 mm Elmars and 28 mm Hektor do not have internal threads on the front mount; the 90 & 135 mm lenses do have internal thread on the front mount, but they appear to be 34 mm (?).
The Summicron has 39mm internal filter threads, as does my Tele-Rokkor 135 mm. My Canon f 1.8 / 35mm LTM has 42 mm filter threads.
I do not have a Summitar (yet), so I don't know what that takes... the 1955 edition of Morgan & Lester's "Leica Manual" has a chart in the back that lists the Summitar as taking a 36.5 mm filter (?)...
I sort of assumed that all the 50 mm screw-in filters had the same mount...

Hi All: The 50mm Summar and 90mm Elmar both use 34mm screw in filters.
Not so long ago, I acquired a Summar with really clean glass, and figuring that having survived for just about 70 years with such pristine glass, it deserved to have a B&W UV filter screwed in there, and never taken off. I then discovered that the filter also fits my 1937 90mm Elmar.
Best,
David
P.S. 36mm screw in does indeed sound like that weird filter for the 50mm Summitar.

David,
A hearty "here, here" on putting a UV filter over that unmolested Summar for mechanical protection !!!!
Where did you source the B&W filter in 34mm ?
Thanks,
LF

As far as I canrecall the only 36mm one is the Summitar and that is not a normal 36mm as its is kinda funnel shaped, flaring out to the same size as the 39mm dfilters at its widest point. My Elmars (90 and 50) have slip filters.

Sourcing 34mm B&W UV filters
Sourcing 34mm B&W UV filters
Hi Luddite Frank: I ordered the filter directly from Schneider Optics, which is the main distributor for B&W filters. For the East Coast, their office is on Long Island. Although they really don't do private sales, there is an electronic order form on the website. The filter cost quite a lot (I think it was around $50 with shipping). The 34mm is not a size that stores like B&H have in stock; it is a special order. By the time they're done with you, it'll probably come out in the same place, only you will have waited longer. Good luck!

Peter,
Thanks - my mystery filters have that funnel-shaped bezel and what appears to be 39mm glass.
Looks like I have a pair of Summitar filters... I guess I'll have to get a Summitar lens to go with them....

Leica did make 34mm threaded filters for Summar 50/2, Elmar 90/4, and Hektor 135/4.5. The front ring is distinctively beveled. Moderately rare. Made in both black and chrome finish. Probably never made in coated glass.
Smaller filters are becoming a bit more common due to dealers selling them with camcorders.
B&H has the B+W 34mm UV filter for $34.95, or you can get a Tiffen there for $9.63. Not to insult these older lenses (which I have and love), but the Tiffen should be perfectly adequate.

Your Summmitar filters can be adapted to E39 lenses with a SOOEY ring should you have an urge to do so.
