Which Jobo tank for 120 film?

Hi,

I want to start processing my own film after realising how cheaply it can be done.

I will be processing 5x4 also and I have bought a jobo expert drum for this.

I still need to get a processor (probably a cpa or cpp machine).

I don't know which tank/drum is best for using with a cpa/cpp fitted with a lift as there are so many drums out there.

If anyone could advise that would be great. Thanks.

I've used the Jobo 1500 series, it does one roll easily and two if you can tape the ends and manage to load the reel with the longer length

The easiest to load (non-Jobo ) are the Hewes IMHO

If you want to automate the process, I know Jobo had processors
For that, but I just used the 1500 tank and did agitation manually etc

Be aware that in rotation the tanks hold less than half the volume of liquid than when standing - with 1500 system tanks (the width originally introduced for their inversion tanks) you will drop below the minimum required amount for many popular one-shot developer/film combinations (e.g. T-Max 400 in Xtol 1+1), and be near the margin for even more. Given that you must use a rotary processor (and lift) with the expert tanks, I'd go with 2500 system tanks (with lift lids).

Ok thanks, so in saying '2500 system' does that mean any tank beginning with the numbers 25 together followed by other numbers?

Right. 15xx are narrow film tanks, 25xx wide film tanks, 28xx wide paper tanks (many parts are interchangeable with 25xx, the difference is in the interchangeable funnel/light trap), 3000 is expert (revolver type sheet film tanks) - all these are pop-on lid, with lift option. For completeness sake, 1000 was the original screw lid narrow tank series, 2000 were the paper tanks from that era.

Since you'll be doing 4x5, 2500 tank system is the way to go. Also, I can't recommend Hewes enough. They do custom reels and tanks too if you ask them. 🙂

First of all, you'd want a second (or third) generation model - the original CPA and CPP were not Lift (and hence Expert drum) compatible. Both a CPA 2 and CPP 2 would do for Expert drums, provided they have a Lift. The CPP 2 makes more effort at temperature regulation (numerical input, optional cooling).

What won't do (without modification) is the CPE-2 - the smallest in the series is too narrow to fit the expert drums.

for 120 roll film:

Jobo 1520, 2x 135-36 or 2x 120 roll film (or one 220). Minimum volume for inverse processing: 485ml.

Especially made for rotary processing: Jobo 2521 (for magnet) or 2523 with cog lid for the connection with an elevator system. Minimum volume is 270ml then (in rotary). Also for: 2x 135-36 or 2x 120 roll film (or one 220). Two 120 roll films on one reel seperated by the Red clip.

Reels: 15xx : 1501 (35mm and roll film 120/220)
25xx: 2502 (35mm and roll film 127/120/220)
