Which Meter For M2?

I agree with the criticism of the loose ASA dial on the VCs. It drives me crazy also. I also agree with the posters who value an incident reading--for a scene with no clear middle-grey (or a jumble of different tones), a reflected meter isn't all that useful.

I have two MR-4s (one chrome, the other one black) which I use on my non-metered Ms quite often and they're nice. But I use the Mastersix much more than any other meter I own. It's relatively large & heavy, but very accurate and much faster to use than the MR-4s. I love the myriad number of measurements it affords me and the huge digital numbers that are so easy to read. It takes reflected, incident & flash (single/average/range) readings and has more functions than I'll ever need... Perfect (for me)...

BTW, one can usually find some in the bay for under a hundred $/EURO; less than the CV/Leica one...

Cheers,
Michael

Me too!!! 🙂 The silver goes with my M3 and the black with my M4-2. Glad I'm not the only fetishist about meter finish... 🙄

However, I'll have to second the VC recommendation for one simple reason: any Leica meter you get will probably have to be rebuilt and recalibrated by George Milton (the wizard of meters). If you have about a month and a half... or more, you can scout eBay or any other used gear store in search of an MR or MR4 meter, then buy it, have it fixed and then ready to use. Otherwise, the VC would do.

My first meter was a Sekonic L-208 that comes in handy because it's small, doesn't need any EV to scale conversion like the Digisix, and the batteries last a really long time. Besides, it's very inexpensive.

There you go! 🙂

the vcii on my M2, don't use it very often (the meter)...

MR-4 is big indeed but it allows for a quicker operation, as it is coupled.
BTW, it is faster in certain conditions than any metered camera because you take the light reading BEFORE bringing the camera to your eyes.

The VC II seems indeed tiny. I have the VC and while I enjoy it, for my M2,I use the MR-4.
