Seems to me the I-61 is marginally more contrasty but I'm struggling to see a difference. I'm quite surprised by this, I've always thought the I-61 noticeably more contrasty (but I do use colour, which may show it up more).
Upon third, fourth, fifth and sixth looks, I think the J-8 is a bit better overall, showing a little more detail in shadows, a certain depth of sharpness overall.
I can't tell any noticeable difference either! I figure this speaks well of the !-61. Is this the !-61l/d with the lantham glass? I think they were made in the 80's? Mine came with a Fed 5. Has anyone ever done a comparison of the I-26m & the I-61? They look identical but the I-26 is a 52/2.8 & the I-61l/d is a 55/2.8. I'm also interested in the Panda version. I don't own one, but I read it has better contrast! I'm wondering if this is true!
I think it is really neat that the J-8 and I-61 focus perfectly on my FED-2d, and focus well on my Bessa. My black I-50 works perfectly on my FED, but does not on my Bessa. I have an aluminum finish I-50 that works well on the Bessa, however.
But it is hard for any of those to knock the LTM Canon 50/1.8 off my Bessa R ...
Did you use any filters? An orange or red filter would have given the trees on the background a better contrast.
Taking a view of a city from a high building, using a tripod, filter and a bright day with almost no fog or haze, would give the best impression. Next step is taking a small crop from both images.
The J-8 image seems to be a tad more exposed than the I-61. And as such the highlights are more blown and the shadows are more detailed. Both images are a bit overexposed for my taste.
Yeah, I was trying to balance exposure for the white dock posts at infinity, and pick up a little detail in the foreground. It was late in the afternoon, with hard sunlight coming from the left on that creek. The shots were purely for a test of focus at infinity of three fsu lenses on my Bessa. I did not bother to post a shot made with an I-50; the pic showed it obviously is not shimmed correctly for the Bessa - very blurry ...
