They both look like fine cameras, but for the price I would opt for the MP, if the reserve isn't too high.

Make photos, not war.
The M3 if you want to collect and the MP if you want to shoot.

The best camera is one that still works!
The M3 would only be worth buying from a collector's point of view. It's a shame ... but to CLA this camera and start using it would bring it's value straight back to earth.
I'd go with the MP ... but I have to wonder what the M3 will go for? Close to $3000.00 I would guess ... anyone else want to play and take a guess?

Shaken, so blurred
That M3 sure looks pretty! Howerer, it would seem almost a shame to use it - so I think my far-from-pristine (but CLA'd) old DS M3 is more in line with what I'd want.

I put a bid, but decided not to pursue it... Having just purchased a couple of XPans and another a-la-carte M7, I didn't want to pay over 2k for an M3 that still needs to be CLA before I can use it (which is what I wanted it for anyway and not to be placed in a pedestal)

Hey, I were you, I would put that lux on ebay with some nice
photos and text. You might be surprised.

well if you are going to use it, that would be a waste of my hard-earned money. since the OP asked what would i do, i will tell you. i'd buy neither. the mp is just too expensive for me as a hobbyist. moreover, a m3 user can be bought in great condition for way, way less; for me, as a hobbyist user, this 2750$ for a mint M3 is a mind-blowing waste of money that could be better spent on 3 ZM lenses. Or I would buy a user m3 and 2 ZM lenses.

Well, MP sold for less than M3! Wow!. And no - I didn't get either. No was I really planning to - not for that price!. But it's funny to see that M3 can still bring that kind of money. Well, actually, we don't know if winner will go through with the payment - looks like someone didn't last time it was listed.
Oh well, - was sure fun to watch this auction.

Your MP will find you.

I've thought about selling some of my surplus gear on eBay and just as I'm about to take the plunge I read about a seller getting burned by some wanker who scored the item and never paid ... through a dodgy paypal account or similar!
There's a lot of bitching about eBay from buyers getting raw deals but unfortunately it seems to work both ways ... there's scammers on both sides of the fence! The thing that makes it attractive is the astronomical prices you see good gear go for at times!

I spent about two years buying & selling Nikon SLR lenses. I got to play with all kinds of stuff and usually sold for profit, sometimes broke even, occasionally lost a little. Overall I made out well, and was lucky as a seller. But the risk is there, and riskier it seems with higher priced items.
