Hi, I'd like to paint black my 40 Nokton's silver (filter thread) external ring... So I need to know:
What metal is it made of?
Is there any special paint for that metal?
Any other chemical way to treat it so it becomes black?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Juan

Hi Juan, when painting consider the thickness of layers, will give you some surprises, things won´t work as they did.
If the metal is aluminium you can anodize it black, like are finished vc black lenses and other brands.
bye!

I just read on a painters' forum that for chrome, there are some of those materials to be applied before the paint, that don't require previous sanding of the chrome...
Anyone sure about the materials used on the 40 Nokton's silver ring?
Cheers,
Juan

Juan, you could probably use what's called an "etching primer" and likely what they're referring to. There are also chemical solutions to strip chrome. You're definitely going to have to remove the ring from the lens at this point...![]()
Yes, that was the term they used... I don't feel like I could remove the ring, though... It sounds complicated... My lens works very well now, and I don't want it to end up with Leica glow...
Cheers,
Juan
