Which prime Golden Age SLR 50mm lense to adapt to my Dig 3 ?

This is just for fun stirring thread because I can adapt just about any manual SLR lense to my Dig 3 ...

i shall be using my Rokkors , and maybe my Pentax Ks , but in an ideal expense no object world - what would it be ? Leica ? Contax ? Nikon ? ... or an old Zeiss Tessar / Pancolour ?

If the adapters were not so expensive , I would buy them all !!!

If it were me I would go for a Pentax Takumar SMC 50/1.4. It is a great lens (both in build quality and image quality). This is one of the few pieces of SLR gear that you would have to pry from my cold dead hands.

OK maybe I'm biased but....Olympus 50/1.8 - cheap as chips, plentiful supply and the adaptor is readily available, will make a great portrait lens (though some don't like the "bokeh"), the last versions are very sharp too.


(I'm guessing for the Digilux 3 ?)

The Leica Digilux 3 has a 4/3rds mount which can accept virtually prime lense with an adaptor .

Ok , I have to use stop down manual metering , but with a proper aperture tring and shutter dial , it's easy !

As I have a K 10 D , it seems the the entax 50 f 1.4 is favourite , but I will try my Minolta MD Rokkor 5o F 1.4 first !

The Pentax and Dig 3 [ or Panasonic L 1 ] are as close to a manual digi-box as I am going to get .

There were only two mentioned already that I have personal experience with; the Fujinon 50mm f/1.4 and the Contax T* 50mm f/1.4. Both are superb lenses.

The Fujinon f/1.8 was also a good lens, as was surprisingly, the Yashinon 50mm f/1.7/1.8, I forget which. For a more normal lens for your camera you might want to try and find a Yashinon 35mm. Forget Fujinon or Contax T* 35mm lenses unless you are going for the price is no object part of your question. They are hard to find and cost a lot when you do.

Stay away from Fujikors and Yashikors, unless you are looking for a certain look.

I vote for the Pentax Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f/1.4. The one with the radio-active element. This is my all-time favourite fifty for a 35mm SLR. Watch out for yellowing caused by the radioactivity. The fix is easy and relativily painless but it takes a long time.

I also like the Zeiss Flektogons - the 20mm f/4, the 20mm f/2.8 and the 35mm f/2.8. I think that they would work nicely on your 4/3rd's camera. The Flektogon can focus in very close. Close focussing on my 20mm f/2.8 is 19cm. I know that the 35mm is 19cm too but I'm not sure about the 20mm f/4.

If I'm not mistaken the D3 has a crop factor of 2x, which would make a 50mm lens a 100mm lens.
If its a true 50mm focal length that you want, them you'll have to look in the 25-28mm range. I have a E-500 and an older Summilux 28mm R lens and a fotodiox adapter that I play with around the house. I haven't mastered the focusing without a split screen on the E500.
I've used the same lens on an older Canon DSLR with pretty good results, however. My lens is a user with good glass that was very inexpensive.
It does have that Leica 'wow' factor, which is fun.
