I wonder if the 35% are digital RF users and the 65% are analog users? It only makes since from all the years working in the dark.:D
 
I remember talking to a (young) web designer once, who told me that a surprising number of young people are happier with light text on black. Personally I hate it and much prefer black text on white (but then I'm not that young these days).

But one thing I noted when I discovered all those different skins is that including coloured text in a post is probably not a good idea - it might look good using my skin, but be impossible to read for people using other skins. So I always leave it to the default colour (and always get a bit annoyed when people specifically choose, say, yellow text because they think it looks pretty using their favourite skin).
 
Help. I just switched to Aquasoft and I can't find the menu to change it back. Help....

Hehe, I did that too - and I couldn't find the menu, so I hit the 'back' button in my browser (to see the previous skin) and changed it back from there.
 
I've switched to Legacy after voting Afterdark +. No more black cursor on a dark grey background, whoopee!! On the other hand, I don't like Legacy much but I'll give it a try for a bit.

BTW, have you seen our demographics poll? "Are you really that old?"

Nikonwebmaster: nice site, though I'm not a big fan of pink as the accent colour.

I went thru all the skins and changed mine to +. Easier to read and still have the dark background. I liked the aqua also but decided to stick with the white lettering. Legacy is just too bright for my taste. I wear bifocals but there not comfortable when reading a computer so I dont wear them.
 
White backgrounds (e.g. Legacy) create eyestrain on a computer monitor -- too much illuminated white light striking the eye. For a site with a lot of reading involved, such as this one, I prefer the dark grey bg of AfterDark.

I have a graphic artist friend who at one time made the claim "those of us who work all day in front of a monitor prefer muted colors/tones, over black on white." The man neglected to remember that I too, worked all day in front of a computer writing code, so legibility and comfort is paramount. For him, legibility is not so important, working in colors and images.

I wonder how much influence our computing environment has on personal preference? I find indirect/ambient lighting far better at my PC desk than something like a desk lamp. Also, I require enough brightness that a white background isn't glaring. When the lights are off, white text on black is actually fine for me, but when the lights are on, it causes undue strain on my eyes.

I'm guessing a large portion of folks using vbp354 do so because it's the default. If you don't have a well-illuminated work area for your web browsing, it's probably great. I'd guess the people who switched to legacy have more illumination near their PC than those who find it straining to the eyes.

Eye to screen distance is greater than normal reading distance, so you need a different prescription.
