Which Slide Projector?

I recently purchased a used slide projector sight unseen! When I unpacked it and read the instructions I found out it is a "Pocket Projector" for 110 slides! It is useless for the 35mm slides I want to view! I didn't even know there was such a thing as 110 slides!

What kind of slide projector should I be on the look out for?

Thanks,
Tom

The one we have in our AV closet at work is a Kodak Ektagraphic, a carousel type. It actually works quite well. Very bright and vivid! The bulbs are still available. I would guess 1970s vintage. You should be able to pick something like this up on {insert sleazy auction site here} for a song and a dance in these days.

My old Carousel was broken, so I picked up a top of the line Ektagraphic for 26 USD. The shipping was as much as the projector! The Leitz projectors are excellent, but harder to find in the US.

Okay friends, thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into it! I can't figure out what to do with this projector I bought, I wonder if there is a slide projector museum some place that I can donate this one to!

I like the Rollei and Leica (and other European country models) that use the linear Leica style trays. They are easy to load, easy to unjam if there's a problem - and the better models have great optics. The trays are also compact and easy to store and label. If you go with Kodak, the Ektagraphic line is best.

Hot dogs! I got me one of those Ektagraphic projectors in nearly new condition. It even has a built in viewer. It works quite well. Now I can view all of the slides I've taken over the years. I'm going to see if I can take a digital shot off of that built in viewing screen!
Thanks for your suggestions!

Hello Folks,
Having used slide film for the first time, and been impressed by the results, I'd like to get a projector. I'm obviously looking on Ebay for Kodak etc and also saw a few Elmo and Kindermann models. Are these any good and are spares (especially bulbs) available?
Best regards,
RoyM

Dear Roy,

Bernard Hunter in Bristol can tell you if the bulbs are available (and supply them), but Carousel/Ektagraphic come up so often and so cheaply that the only reason to get anything else is if it comes up even easier or cheaper or if you particularly like straight trays as David Murphy does.

Cheers,

R.

Hello Roger,

Thanks for the advice. I spotted the Kindermann machine this morning for £45 (delivered) with a screen and table. Unfortunately the listing doesn't mention the model and projectors are a whole new world to me!
Best regards,
RoyM

Dear Roy,

Call Andrew at Bernard Hunter, Bristol 666 066, before you buy it.

Not only does bulb availability vary widely: so does price. One of my projectors uses bulbs that cost more than the projector!

Cheers,

R.
