My eight year old daughter has been sufficiently interested in photography to read photo books and learn the basics of exposure and composition. She currently shoots a four year old Panasonic JPEG only P&S. She adjusts images in Ubuntu Linux using GIMP, or Picaso... not really sure which. Anyway, purchasing an S-100 for Christmas in order to give her some experience with processing raw files. I understand that especially on the wide end, this little Canon cooks the JPEGs to get them looking good. I've only had experience with Aperture and she won't be using a Mac.
Can any of you suggest either Linux, or Windows programs which can easily compensate in RAW for spacial distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberrations?

OK.. now I see that Adobe produces lens profiles that also include some cameras, such as the Canon S-100. Also, the lens profiles are available for non-Adobe products, including Linux programs such as UFRaw and Rawtherapee in the form of 'Lens Fun'.
Thanks.
Thanks.

She is now using a Windows 7 computer, so I downloaded GIMP and Digikam for her. Will see how it works as replacements for PS and Lightroom. Linux seems to have more Lightroom alternatives.. ie .. Rawtherapee and Darktable.

If I'm not mistaken, the camera shipped with Canon software. Have you let your daughter try the Canon RAW converter/editing software?
