Last year I bought a Sony A6000 with a couple of kit lenses for my wife to use. When I started scanning with a digital camera, it was with the A6000. After a few months, there was a A5100 for a low price at a local shop. My justification was, it has the same 24 MP sensor as the A6000 which is sufficient for my needs and it was cheap enough not to fee guilty about leaving it on a copystand. Fast forward to today, my wife used the A6000 a few times but mostly it sits in the bag. The only advantage for my needs is the A6000 has marginally better software to connect with a mobile device but not good enough to send the image to the computer wirelessly. The SD slot on the A5100 is on the side and easy to remove from the camera while still mounted to the stand. The SD slot on the A6000 is on the bottom next to the battery and somewhat difficult to remove. Both can be tethered to the computer for transfer but having a Mac, the Sony imaging software is old and doesn't work particularly well with Apple products, removing the card gives me the fastest access. The A6000 will work with a wireless remote, the A5100 requires a wired one. Most of my interest in photography revolves around film, digital is the fastest method to transfer the negative images into the editing software. I'm leaning towards keeping the A5100 and moving the A6000 on to a new home. So, time for a poll!

Yeah,I know, double post and forgot to check the poll box before posting. I'm so used to getting kicked out and having to log back in before the post is accepted, this one surprised me.

If you mostly use it for scanning then it sounds like the 5100 meets your needs. Used in your copy stand at home the wired remote is not a big deal, but getting at the SD card is easier.
Sell the 6000 and you may use the funds for other needs. I suppose your wife mostly uses her phone as a camera ( like a Lot of ladies 😀) so that is my take.

I'd keep whichever one is easier to use on a copy stand for that purpose, if that's what your priority is.

The A6000 seems to sell on Ebay for around $350-400, the A5100 seems to sell for around $250-325, so if you sell the A6000 you get a little more back and keep the wired remote (which I tend to prefer for copy work). It's not a vast amount of money for either, but it's not nothing: enough to be worth selling whichever one you don't want to use. 😀

(I wish the Leica CL took a wired remote for copy work... Regards moving the files, it's always vastly more efficient to just move files using a card reader than to use the wireless remote software to transfer the files. I digitized 300+ Polaroid prints into raw files the other night: moving those files via the wireless remote software would have taken a long time, likely a half hour, where moving them via the card reader took about four minutes.)

Thanks for the input on poll not a poll. Both pf them are on their way to KEH (5% on interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras this weekend plus 5% for trade in) trading up to the A7 or some variant. Sending money to KEH since 1979!

I've got that very combo myself. You should like it as with that lens the camera is really amazing as long as the light is good.
